I copied two layers from the original image, desaturated the top layer and adjusted the curves a little to increase the desaturation effect subtly, then using the paintbrush tool in PS, I painted out the part of the image of the car to reveal the second layer below to bring out the original colour of the old car. |

Another technique you could use to enhance the image is to layer a scenic view or sky scene over the original image and then paint out the overlaying part of the image to expose the underlying image of the elephants. I did a very quick workshop on your original image and used the backdrop from one of my photographs I had in storage. It's some mounts in the distance with a cloudy sky (cloudy sky because you don't have any strong shadows in your image.
I hope you see and understand what I've done here and please don;t take any offence.
