Osteospermum

This is a yellow Osteospermum, 'Lemon Symphony', that grows in my garden. These flowers have been flowering for a few months already – yes, even in winter. Brilliant, isn’t it?

Osteospermums are a very popular daisy originally from Africa and now grown world-wide. It is a summer-flowering plant with flowers like daisies that bloom in white, blue and shades of pink and yellow. They all have a ring of dark contrasting colour right around the centres, which I find really attractive.

It has been given several common names: African Daisy, South African Daisy, Cape Daisy and Blue-eyed Daisy.

They are eye catching plants and are ideal for growing in dry, problem areas. They’ve been growing at home for a few years now in an area of the garden that faces north (NZ’s hottest ‘side’) I like how they always have their sunny faces shining up towards the sky.

Beautiful Jannie!! So nice to see you here! This is nice, definately an exercise in "thirds". I might would have pushed the contrast just a little more, but I do like the subtle light!

Excellent format for this image.
Your focus is rightly done, letting the background in a nice blurr.
I wonder if these pretty daisies can survive our winter?

Hi, Janice. Well observed and nice eye catching composition of these beautiful Cape daisies. The DOF and contrast brings focuses on the beauty of these flowers. Good formatting and simple elegant framing is aesthtically apealing. Cheers.

What a threesome! Lovely daisies and presented to us in such a wonderful composition. Beautiful natural pastel colors. Very sharp and well lighted.
I like the letter-box crop to dramatise the situation. Nice elegant frame to compliment.

Hi Janice,
A fine composition of "three". Like the diaogonal position of the flowers the shallow DOF works well creating a maximum focus on the flowers with the background blurred, somthing which I wouldn't expect with a aperture of f/8. The middle flower looks a bit pale though, selecting the middle flower only, increasing levels and saturation a bit might improve this wonderful picture a bit. Made a WS to show what I mean. Anyway a fine post my dear. Kia ora!

This is such a beautiful posting where you share three different stages from a beautiful species of a golden flower!

I like the way you composed this shot, focusing them all in a transverse frame. Great clarity and nice colors also adore the picture. The sharpness and POV are excellent and blurry BG helps the subject(s) standing well against it.
