[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo was taken in Alcochete, on a place called "Miradouro Amália Rodrigues", that it's showed in this picture. In the photo you can see a tiles panel with a paint of the great portuguese singer.

Amália Rodrigues (1920–October 6 1999) was a Portuguese singer and actress. Born in Lisbon, official documents have her date of birth as July 23, but Amália always said her birthday was July 1, 1920. She was born on Martim Vaz Street, in Lisbon's Pena parish.

She was known as the "Queen of Fado" and was most influential in introducing fado to the world outside of Portugal. She was unarguably the most important figure in the genre’s development, by virtue of an innate interpretive talent carefully nurtured throughout a 40-year recording and stage career. Amália’s performances and choice of repertoire pushed Fado’s boundaries and helped redefine it and reconfigure it for her and subsequent generations. In effect, Amália wrote the rulebook on what Fado could be and on how a female singer – or Fadista — should perform it, to the extent that she remains an unsurpassable model and an unending source of repertoire for all those who came afterwards. Amália also remains the sole truly international star to have ever come out of Portugal, with an extensive international career between the 1950s and the 1970s, although in an era where such efforts were not as easily quantified as today. Other well-known international artists such as Madredeus, Dulce Pontes or Mariza have come close, however.

On October 6, 1999, Amália Rodrigues died at the age of 79 in her home in Lisbon. Her house (in Rua de São Bento) is now a museum.

About Alcochete:

The old town of Alcochete is located on the south bank of the River Tagus, near the Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve. Salt has long-been one of the main industries here, and saltpans can still be seen to the north and south of the town.
The town's foundation dates back to the 7th century, after the Moors conquered Lisbon. Its name derives from the Arabic word for kiln, as there have been many found in the area.

Regards from Portugal,

P.S. I left the tiles panel in color because in my way of view this panel it's very beautiful in color and lose a lot with the B&W

Me encanta la voz y aquellos Fados inolvidables! Bella obtencion fotografica Antonio. El contraste del B&N con los colores vivos del retrato de Amalia y ademas el ambiente tragico dado por las nubes...es un Fado poético y fotografico! Bello homenaje , Bravo!
José A.

I am not at the site actualy, but a short visit made I saw this one !
A very good one of course with a great effect from the clouds above the coloured part.
But these smiles will be those from me and my father, Fans for Amalia Rodriguez and Fado.

Wonderful compostion. Really great sky, so dramatic. Well done.

WOW Antonio,
A good choise changes the sky into B&W: it's like one big explosion of clouds.

Superb work, Antonio... The clouds are amazing and the panel in colour contrasts so well with this. I love it!
Kind regards,

Hi Antonio,
Highly dramatic and good effects! My eyes are moving from the portrait to the sky and back again... Good composition and wise to keep colours in the portrait...

Ola Antonio

Excellent & intelligent use of partial desaturation. A superb tonal range, & wonderful pp work in the sky. Obrigado & parabens!

I grew up with her music, her name and fame all over Europ,I still love it and although I enjoy Madredeus, Amalia is still the best with that magic inflection in her voice.
Beautiful dramatic sky, well done, thanx, (*_*)

Powerfull shot! Those clouds look so intense! And the compo.. Color/B&W give a look so attractive for the eye.. Great Shot!

Eye catching photo (art work) Dramatic sky dark and in strong contrast with the thin colors of the statue. Nice peace of work.

WOW!!! Espantosa! O céu está de cortar a respiração, e o trabalho em pp está muito bem!
Excelente foto!

Bravo Antonio! Yes, I like Madredeus and Marisa, but there is only one Queen of Fado! I have few CDs of hers, but missing some great ones. Working on that ...

I think you captured quite nicely the feeling of solitude of fado in this shot. Very nice dedication, pouting us in the perspective through the up-front image of Amalia.

Yes, she is the Queen of Fado! beautiful photo in tribute to an excellent singer. She has one of the most expressive voice I have heard. I do not understand much Spanish but when I heard her sing on the CD player of a friend of mine from El Salvador, I was hooked. I bought two of her CDs.
