I was supposed to fly back from Greece to Belgium on the 15th. But the Eyjafjöll volcano has other plans for me… I had the chance (!?) to spent the first night of my life in a Thalasso club near Athens airport, paid by Olympic Air. In place of testing thalasso cares, I made a walk around to search plants (including this one!) and insects.
The two following days were more difficult (Vienna-Brussels on packed trains!), but I’m lucky comparing thousands people still on the way…

Briza maxima L.
Family: Poaceae
Common names : Big Quaking Grass, Blowfly Grass, Shelly Grass, Shell Grass [En], Lágrimas, pendientes, tembladera, bolitas de toro [Sp], Tremble annuel, grande amourette, grande brize [Fr]

Briza maxima is an annual distinctive grass, with compact, almost rectangular florets that shake in the breeze. They start out as a pale green with deep brown bases, then fade to a pale golden brown, often purplish. The plant is glabrous, with stem erect. It grows to a height of 60 cm.
It is cosmopolitan grass, Mediterranean native, but cultivated or naturalised in the British Isles, Australasia, North, Central and South America.
It grows on disturbed soils, road sides, phrygana.

Hello Catherine,a good presentation with a very suitable dark bg to show off this pretty grass.
Excellent sharpness.
Their colour is very subtle.

Bonjour Catherine,
Magnifique photo très bien cadrée. J'aime beaucoup l'arrière plan et la netteté de l'image. Les tiges semblent métallisées tellement elles sont fines.

Salutations.
Danièle.
