This is one of the most famous shipwrecks of Greece. It lies on the beach “Glyfada” near Gytheio, south of Peloponnesus, for about 50 years. It is said that the ship was smuggling cigarettes from Turkey to Italy and fell into a storm.
A symbolic image for the financial situation of Greece today? It is not my opinion... As this shipwreck which became an important tourist attraction today, the Greek people can resist to the “fatality” official messages.

Gytheio (Greek: Γύθειο, formerly Γύθειον, Gýtheion – also transliterated Gythio, Gythion) is a town long known as the seaport of Sparta some 40 km away. Gytheio used to be an important port for many centuries until it was destroyed by an earthquake. Today it is the largest and most important town in Mani.

Wikipedia about Gytheio

This is a photo of my archives. It was lightly cropped. The sky and the boat were selected for level adjustment in Photo Shop.

Hi Catherine

Good low pov for a great image presentation, excellent use of the Takina lens at 12mm. Very beautiful image. Did a workshop to maybe try to accentuate or add to the scene.

Wow, IMHO a very well thought out composition Catherine. I think your capture of light hitting the ship & the foreground sand is well done.I like the curves in the sand leading the eye into the scene & to that beautiful shipwreck. I'm not sure what the rusting metal is on the beach, but it sure adds more interest & a balance to this scene. Vibrant image.Well taken.
I thought this scene could also be perfect for HDR imaging.

Excellent subject - just amazing that a ship would be allowed to sit there, and not be salvaged or dismantled for scrap.

POV, light, colours and sharpness are all excellent and the dramatic sky really enhances it all.

An interesting POV of this tanker shipwrecked on this beach which is serving as a 'monument of ruins'!
Very rusty and in a miserable state. In my openion, it's an eyesore!
Photographically a very sharp capture adorned with superb lighting. Very good details and good management in exposure.

Bonjour Catherine,
Magifique photo! Ton point de vue très bas magnifie tous les éléments de ta composition,
le ciel avec la position et le modelé des nuages, l'atmosphère et ce vieux bateau rouillé échoué sur le le sable. La lumière est exceptionnelle. Bravo! Annie

Geia sou Katerina! That's really beautiful work. TFS

An unbelievably fine picture. The light and colors underscore the dramatic character of this image.Like it a lot,Otto.

Hello Catherine,

In the thumbnail it almost looked like an old sailing ship. But the bigger picture revealed the sadness that is there in this photo. The light carries the theme well. The composition, particularly the point of view, is very good. The clouds in the sky help too. Thank you.

Regards,
Siddhartha

Hi Dear:)

Incredible looking scenery, I love the way that you photographed this symbolic ship:) as well as the still water. The clouds's effect is a bonus too. Very well photographed MF!
Cheers,

Bayram

Fantastic wreck of a boat, the light has brought out the detail so well everywhere in this capture. Love the perspective chosen with defining cloud formations.
Top job here Catherine.
