Howth head Lighthouse

The Baily Lighthouse, on the southeastern part of Howth Head in Dublin, Ireland, is maintained by the Commissioners of Irish Lights.
The first lighthouse on this site was built in about 1667 by Sir Robert Reading, and was one of six that Reading had received letters patent to build from Charles II in 1665. The original facility consisted of a small cottage and a square tower which supported a coal-fired beacon. Parts of the original buildings remain. In 1790, the coal beacon was replaced with a set of six Argand oil lamps, each including a silvered copper parabolic and a bulls-eye glass pane. During this period, the lighthouse was maintained by the Revenue Commissioners.

In 1810, the Corporation for Preserving and Improving the Port of Dublin took over the operations. The original building's location was high on the headland, so the light was often obscured by fog. On December 5, 1811 a recommendation was issued that the lighthouse be moved south on the headland to Little Baily, or Duncriffan. A new tower and house for the keeper, designed by George Halpin Senior, the corporations’s Inspector of Works, was completed on March 17, 1814. The top of the tower stood 134 feet (41 meters) above the sea, and the fixed white catoptric light was provided by a set of 24 Argand lamps and reflectors .

Aids to Navigation
-Light: Fl W 15s. Exhibited by day in poor visibility; Nominal range 27 nautical miles.
-Height of Tower: 13 metres.
-Height of light above mean high water springs: 41 metres.

Hi Piotr,

Nice depth in your composition. The greens are well detailed. And a great note on the lighthouse! A coal beacon... You had to be almost on the coast to see that one :-). But well, I wouldn't know what to use otherwise. It also explains why there are so little trees around ;-).
Thanks for sharing!

Greetings! Dennis

Perfect colours and wonderful PoV, !
This is fabulous ..what a view ..!!
Welldone Piotr

Hi Piotr, What a stunning view! This is a beautiful land/seascape. Love the colours and details of the picture. Well done!
Cheers, Pat.

I recognised this scene immediately, as I have walked around Howth head many times in the past. The colours are just beautiful, especially those azure waters, that we do sometimes have in Ireland! The composition is excellent, with foreground, midground and background all sharp.

Czesc Piotr:
Magnificent seascape with razor sharpness wonderful blue green colours and a perfectly balanced layout of the composition.... A gem my friend!......Roman:0)

Great work!

Hello Piotr.
Absolute a gorgeous landscape view.
Excellent looking photo.! Perfect composition.
Congrats with the result.

Hi Piotr
This is a great panorama. The green colours in particular are gorgeous, and so is the composition. In a way, the lighthouse is almost incidental - this is really a picture of a headland, the sea and the landscape in the background. The clouds add a further dimension, and the frame is well-judged.

Hi Piotr,
What a stunning panoramic view, excellent captured, great you use the [map:view] option too! An outstanding presentation my friend.

Hi Piotr,
Love how the emerald green cliffs move gently out to the contrasting blue sea.
Dramatic stormy sky over the distant hills and lovely lighthouse give a clear view of the need for a lightouse on this prominent point.
