Everybody was surprised in the middle of October, 2003, when significant amount of snow suddenly fell in the Alps. This is the morning after the early snowfall, the weather was so chilly and clear that I couldn't resist to take this pictoresque shot.

Semmering (el. 965 m) is a mountain pass in the Eastern Northern Limestone Alps connecting Lower Austria and Styria, between which it forms a natural border. Semmering Pass is located west of Sonnwendstein and Hirschenkogel and east of the Pinkenkogel.

With the Wechsel Pass, the Semmering is the most important connection between Lower Austria and Styria. It can be crossed by road (via an Autobahn with a tunnel), or using the Semmering Railway.

A village also bearing the name Semmering is located on the pass. The villages of Maria Schutz and Spital am Semmering are located slightly below the pass, on the Lower Austrian and Styrian sides respectively. Schottwien and Mürzzuschlag are the closest sizeable towns on either side.

Hi Kristof
The sunlight really enhanced the mountain and its spectacular to see the difference between the ridges with this morning mist.
Super nice and the framing compliments the color.

Hello Kristof,

The Alps look quite magnificent from your composition, with overlapping, tree covered slopes vying for attention in the f/g but having to accept second place to the pink capped, distant mountains. Excellent textural details, almost in monochrome.

Sorry, I do not like the colour of the border. To me it attempts to take attention from the mountains. Simple white, or grey would have been better.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Kristof
Nice place and great work my friend.
