[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Cruise passengers were warned numerous times that the ship would sail as scheduled, with or without them. We were told that there would be ďrunners,Ē those who would just make it back onboard in the nick of time, and yes we saw one or two of them. This guy however, totally missed the boat.

The boat pictured here is the harbor pilotís boat, but thatís a passenger being brought aboard. This was at least 30 minutes after we set sail, and the pilot boat had an extremely difficult time pulling up alongside the ship. It was struggling with the wake of the large cruise ship, and my intention was to catch the pilot boat hitting the shipís wake at the bow. A pretty treacherous maneuver!

***Additional note regarding post processing:

Several of my friends (here and on Facebook) have mentioned the HDR look in this photo, so an explanation is in order. I use Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 to edit my photos. Although this is not a true HDR (multiple images at different exposure levels), the Local Tone Mapping utility in the software yields a similar effect. It both sharpens and adds contrast to the image. Perhaps this should be classified as HPP, so Iíll change that too.

As far as other processing goes, I tightened the crop slightly and applied an unsharp mask.

Hi Werner,
A nice action shot and a funny one! Beautiful high POV capturing this boat with two who missed the ship!
Nice HDR treatment, I suppose!
Beautiful colors and perfect details in the wave caused by the boat.
Very neat work.

Francis Xavier

Hi Werner...beautiful tones and details in this shot. It looks like a very good HDR shot...but I think it is rare to get HDR to look this natural.....nice work.

Hi Werner,
A good capture, the passenger looks embarrassed, I like the strong contrast in the shot -it's not classified as HPP but looks like it
Cheers
Jack

Hi Werner,

The moral of the story is to be on time! It's not as if Bermuda has major gridlocked traffic problems! Good sharpness & high pov. Tfs!

Hello Werner,
That's an interesting situation actually. Bermuda makes me think of a myterious triangle. I'm glad that the guy managed to get on board again. Unique moment has been caught in this frame. Pilot boat negotiating with wake of cruise ship is looking thrilling. A wonderful image, well done. Thanks for sharing.
Best Wishes,
Inaam
