[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A group of Maasai men outside their village, preparing to dance. The village was located between Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park, in a dry desolate area.

The Maasai are nomadic herders, herding goats and cattle. The move from village to village, following water and grass, or at least used to. Now, a significant source of income are tourists who stop at the villages. For $10 a person, they will dance and allow photos. They will invite you into their homes, showing you how they live and answering questions. Their homes are cramped stick, cardboard, and dung huts. They are hot and poorly ventilated. It really makes one appreciate how lucky we have it.

The downside of this experience is the pressure to buy goods afterwards. There is a significant pressure to buy. While goods are very nice, there doesn't seem to much of a price difference when compared to the shops we stopped at. The money is split, with half going to the person who made the items and half going to the chief who then uses it for the good of the tribe, to buy water or food, etc.

Hi David,
Nicely presented group portrait. I like your arrangement with the tree in the middle, well just off actually, of the shot behind the dancers.
Good composition, interesting note.

Hi David,
I adore this image! What a beautiful composition and good rendered of this joyful mood! No distractive details in this image and the tree behind the dancers offers us a good idea
of this environment where the grassy plain must be dominant. The Maasai are splendid persons, so elegant. I appreciated to read your informative note, too. I tried to give more light with shadows and highlights function. Please look at my workshop and don't mind.
My compliments! Annie

excelent composition. Beautifull colors.

Excellent POV and composition for this group of Maasai men. I like the sense of camaraderie in their body language and their colorful figures in the open setting. The tree is a bonus feature, adding a natural umbrella of sorts and helping to frame the composition nicely. Well done:)
