No this is not a post processing trick...its the real thing! While visiting a friend's ranch in Alberta last spring, I found this friendly canine sitting behind the wheel of a pickup truck.
Although I had heard such genetic crosses were possible, this was the first time I ever saw a dog with two colors of eyes.
From what I have been led to understand, this is possible because there are no dominant and recessive traits in eye color for dogs, So if one parent has brown eyes and one parent has blue you will get one brown and one blue eye. In human brown is dominant and blue is recessive so brown would be both eyes. But dogs eye color does not have ressecive traits.

But I have heard that humans also have been seen with two colors of eyes.....have any of you world travellers seen them in your global treking?

Nice shot! Honestly? No I've never met a person with noticeably different coloured eyes, but then I've never really looked that hard! I really like the long suffering look on our canine friends face, I think he's used to being photographed... My only wish is that the focus was on his face, and not on the steering wheel of the car! I love his/her expression though :-)

Wow,those eyes!

This occurs in horses and cats, too. And, believe it or not, it also occurs in humans (though rarely). It's known as heterochromia. Thanks to your photo and note, I learned something new tonight. :)

Derek, Yes, I have seen people who have had different eye colors. It is certainly uncommon but not unheard of. I love this picture of the dog and will include it with the theme folder entitled "aNyThInG eXtReMeLy uNiQuE." It seems that Blue Heelers (canines) have differing colored eyes fairly often from what I have observed. Thanks and God's best to you, Tim

Beautiful shot. I love dogs, and this one has that look : Oh Lord, not an other one. Thank you for the note, an other thing I have learnt on TL and TE.

Hi derek, what did you do that the dog looks at you like that!! ;-)
David Bowie has a brown and a blue eye.

I love the different eyes in this and the red car. Great color and composition.

I've seen some like that. Pups keep blue eyes for about 1 month, then, the iris moves to the definitive color. My border has a blue patch on about 20% of his left iris. It doesn't affect the eye sight at all. Even a bit blurred, your shot is really good. The fact that the dog is leaning outside the door makes it very cute. Thanks for sharing, Derek

IT IS VERY beautiful...
But it is different...I do not care about this...

Hola Derek: In my childhood, a long time ago I have done people with different colors of eyes, mainly in the rural region here in Tabasco and I have also seen dogs but I have not seen some that is appreciated in way so clear and magnificent as the beautiful dog that you present in this picture. The blue color of its eyes is as the sky, beautiful, this to give an interesting appearance to this beautiful and special animal. Saludos Cordiales. *Ninfa Urania*

awww what a face! you were in the right place at the right time. The dogs eyes are gorgeaus. I read a book once that said someone with two colored eyes possesses two different souls. Who knows. This pup sure looks friendly.

belle composition le regard de ce chien bravo pour avoir capte cette expression

David Bowie, News Anchor Jill Krop here in Vancouver, and my puppy. :^}) Beautiful photo, looks like he / she is really trying to tell you something.
