This is an oriental anhinga (Anhinga melanogaster) also
known as an African darter or snakebird. They're great fishermen and abound near lakes, rivers, streams, and swamps. Despite their proclivity for water, their feathers aren't waterproof like a duck's. Consequently, they hang them out to dry in the sun after a dip. |
