Your choice of aperture has made the background out of focus which, in turn, makes the bird stand out. He has a nice pose and you've capured good detail. Where you have positioned him within the frame is also very good and works well. Perhaps the contrast in the background could have been reduced, but that's being very picky.
A good result.
Beautiful bird, nicely captured with good details. Good lighting and you compensated well for being in the shadow. Good use of the narrow dof. Well done, tfs.
Hello Fiona, a lovely close up of the butcher bird; as Robert has already stated, the bokeh emphasises the bird and creates an illusion of 3D.
