Capelinhos Lighthouse

[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Prior to the volcanic eruption in 1957 this lighthouse was positioned on the most westerly point of the Island of Faial. Today about two kilometers of land lies west of it. The lighthouse was partially destroyed during the eruption. Nowadays the first floor is still covered in ashes. An interpretative center has been build underground in front of the lighthouse. The tower has been restored and can be visited.
I took this photo on a cloudy grey day. Still I wanted to have a photo of the lighthouse and decided then and there that it needed to become a black and white. |

Hi,the b+w treatment along with the point of view give the image a fateful atmosphere.Nothing lightweight about it,very well conceived, all the best,Otto.

Hi.
Captivating design.
stv ;o))
HI Niek, b&w comes to the rescue.. I like the way the lighthouse appears to come out of the ground. Fiona
Hi Niek, good shot of this light house black & white suits well too, it seems a bit over-sharpened to me.. I'll add this to my theme of lighthouses, thanks..
