|Not strictly a Nature shot, this was captured in the aviary at the Hamilton zoo.|
We were in an area where there was a dense overhead canopy of trees.
I had the speedlite on to shoot a wood pigeon, when this young heron flew past and landed on the handrail behind us.
Lucky I had the flash, the bright sun was behind the bird, and I wouldn't get much detail.
I had my wide angle zoom on, so every step I took to get closer, the heron took a step back.
Here it is looking at me, and taking another step back.
The original was a little flat because of the flash, so I used HDR to enhance the plumage.

Bom dia Peter,
I note that the zoo is being visited by some of the major treklensers. ;-}
This has rewarded us with beautiful images.
The Heron is a fine example.
fine capture of a young heron. nice pose. well done with HDR treatment for good sharpness of feathers and features. the colors look nice too.
