American Cars ( theme )
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|They have become rarer nowadays in the western world except as collectors'items but in Cuba they still rumble down city boulevards and country roads across the island . 1950s Fords Buicks and Pontiacs some in mint condition others unfortunately on the verge of collapse but the reality for visitors to the island ( they are quite a sight to behold ) is even here they are slowly disappearing too : from about 150,000 Americans cars that existed at the time of the 1959 revolution that number has dwindled to an estimated 60,000 today . The Detroit auto giants and all American manufacturers were forced to stop sending goods to Cuba to conform with the US embargo .|
They are known here as "cacharros " .
Russiand Ladas , modern Peugeots and Kias now outnumber the 1950s classics but for the most part those newer cars are owned by the State and cannot be sold on the free market .
Thank you for looking , hope this one is appropriate for the theme today , C

I like the height you were abouit to achieve with taking this capture. Colours and detail are of high tariff, the sheen across the paintwork and its non distracting surrounds makes this something special. Nice touch also as a perfect addition for theme friday. tfs
This a well taken shot with amazing sharpness and contrasts!
The positioning of the car within a square format against the road gives great contrast.
Light and exposure are well done, and colors are original.
A nice addition to the theme!
Have a nice weekend.
Ces anciennes beautés sont devenues rares...Cuba et la Californie
sont des endroits ou ces voitures ont une deuxième vie..
bien capté avec un beau POV..
Elle est superbe...une belle entrée aussi au thème de la semaine.
Hi,excellent clear image of this vintage car.The owner must have looked after it with pride to keep it in such good condition.Best regards,Otto.
I like the luminosity of this good composition. the car is something...the blue is lovely and everything shine, The light is really superb, I would love to see Havana and feel all the mood ,
To us this car is a beautiful classic but to the Cuban this is life. It's amazing how creative the Cubans are as far as keeping those cars in good running condition. Nicely captured with good lighting and dof with sharp details. Well done, tfs.
