[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I met Clinton in my local coffee shop and was immediately interested in photographing him. It turns out that he was a professional photographer who worked with Ansel Adams. His website (clintonsmith.com) is incredible and I would encourage all of the people on this site to look at it. Clinton worked with medium and large format film cameras and is very talented.

Clinton is in the process of writing a book tracing his ancestors from the time of the American Revolution. We took this series of photographs with the goal of getting a shot suitable for his book.

This shot was converted to black and white using the Channel Mixer in CS5. The RED channel was reduced and the GREEN channel increased. The STRUCTURE was increased using NIK’s Viveza.

Hi Roger

A superb head & shoulders portrait of this imposing & regal looking man with the folded arms heightening the perception of power & strength. Good also to have no direct eye contact. Excellent graphism & sharpness with a good tonal range too. Tfs!

I love this photo.
the man looks like he contains a lot of wisdom.
i love the light, composition and sharpness!
TFS

Exceptional for book cover.
With one shoulder higher than other, ensheathed arms and looking to horizons, he gives a real meaning of being a wise man.

charisma. Excellent presentation. TFS

Another strong portrait work from you, Roger!

The light is well handled and exposure can't be better.
Sharpness and POV is excellent, and contrast against a black BG is well seen.
A well executed work!

Best greetings,
Paras

You are truly the master of portraiture! Awesome portrait with great lighting. Good details and good contrast. Very well done, tfs.

This is just excellent in EVERY way Roger!! the details in his beard and hair are excellent! the levels are spot on. I love that pose...not much for eye contact in portraits. I think you can show who a person is when they aren't posing! Excellent work, one of your best!

Bonsoir Roger,

Excellent portrait, good control of your lights rendering nice facial volume. The B&W PP treatment is very well mastered with plenty of shade from deep black to immaculate white. And all these tone without any excessive contrast. No wonder, I just read you use Viveza. A wonderfull tool. I don't have it but I use Nikon Capture NX2 (made by Nik Software for Nikon) that use the Upoint technology. It's crazy what can be done with it. Beautifull work and TFS.

Hi Roger, he definitely looks like he is one serious writer with that pose. I like the no-eye contact, a serious pose without being cheesy.Fiona

Perfect for the book cover photo will surely catch one's fancy.

most impressive portrait of a proud elderly man. I wonder how old?
with your skill in portraiture Rog, you can be a Berenice Abbot or a Yousuf Karsch
Best and happy clicking from the 'gabbypal'
