[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was treading the soft fine graded sand of Altiman Beach when i spotted this young Bulgarian boy in shallow waters at the same time i also felt his hesitation/reluctance to a point as he slowly waded in farther at a snail's pace perhaps intending to go deeper and have a swim , i for one would have hesitated too ( i am sensitive to anything that is cold and resembles water ! ha ha ) as the Black Sea is much colder in late May than mid- end of- August when the waters have warmed for three months . In the end he just could not plunge in , too chilly ...but i found the instant captured interesting to post though .
Used black and white for this one ( i can truly say i have become a fan of this medium for many reasons ) as the subdued midday colors were not that appealling to me , i like the result of the conversion anyhow , iso 80 , 1/160 , f/6.3 on a fine day , played with contrast a bit , sharpened and framed .
This part of the coast is in my view the most beautiful of all Bulgaria , that stretch of beach in particular , if i were to give my old body some genuine relaxing time for a few days , i mean sitting in a beach chair all day this the place i would spend that time , hummm no later than mid-June well...before the inevitable tourist invasion takes place here in July and August .
Thank you for looking,
Carol

Hi Carol,
This brings back childhood memories. How many times have I been standing like this in a cold sea or lake, afraid for the cold water but really looking forward to finally make it for a swim.
A wonderful capture that tells a great story. The conversion to black and white made the photo even stronger.
TFS,
Niek

A well though shot with a well written note, Carol!

Like the way you composed the work with nice light and an 'emotional' background.
The idea behind the picture is nice and the overall view is charming for the situation.
The B/W treatment to the picture worked well in this case.

Best wishes,
Paras

Le dégradé de gris met bien en valeur l'avant-plan et le garçon qui rentre prudemment dans l'eau. Très bonne position du personnage dans la composition et bon cadrage.

Very nice capture...simple but effective composition especially in B&W. I like where you place the boy in the frame. Great pov and dof with nice contrast. Well done, tfs.

Hi Carol, between the b&w treatment and the white frame it reminds me of an old photo from the sixties.Simple but nice.Fiona

Carol,
Your compostion captures the vastness of the scene with your young subject visible but small creating a feeling of contemplation.
A well composed monorchrome image that has a photojournalistic feeling about it as you note adds to the story behind the image.
Overall, just very well done.

Hello,Carol -
Wonderful summer image with a timeless feel due to the b&w presentation. I particularly like the sense of the open space surrounding the solitary boy. Subtle horizontal graphics in the surf and shoreline. Well done.

Olá Carol
I read your note...it is delicious and truth...and I had the desire that you invented something else to this boy photo. It is alook a frame of an Europen film...the bw tonality is very well choseen and I must say me who doesn´t like frame, I love your white frame here. Excellent placement of the boy...a fun scene indeed but it could be a drama scene. You are an artist. I love the photo.
Um abraço
teresa
