[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There is something romantic about Lighthouses. Maybe the shape, maybe the fact that they sit out on points of land by themselves.

I passed this on on the way beck up the California coast yesterday. I am processing most of my shots quite a bit lately. My aim is to create a painting like effect but to keep the realism. I use some effects from CS5 and some from Nik's Viveza for color or Silver Efex Pro for black and white.

The full frame 5DII with a 24mm lens gives a nice wide shot. The Hoya HD polarizer is subtle but very nice as well.

Hi Roger
Great shot. The graining effect mixed with B&W conversion works well. Although the original would look great with the white brick against the blue sky, the B&W adds so much more character, and with the graining effect you get the gritty feel that adds further strength to the image.
Nice one Roger

Hi Roger,
the beacon of hope for a safe passage through dangerous waters & coastlines.I like how your rendition stands out so strongly, against the stormy sky. You've certainly achieved your goal,I like the result of your PP work,a great mood,it seems to say, nothing can harm me,I'll always be standing here to guide.

Bom dia Roger,
It goes without critical comment. Only pleasure and excitement of seeing.
Compliments,
Raimundo

Love the old fashioned B&W grainy effect - creates a gloomy but dramatic feel.
John

Nice pic Roger - the perspective, even with very wide lens, is good! Nice B&W subject, simple and the PP suits it well.

Cheers

Hi Roger,

Very nice pp work, I especially like the vignetting. There is something romantic about lighthouses, but for me it has to do with the rugged individuals who lived and worked in them. Nice, effect use of negative space.

What an amazing shot with perfect view and depth, Roger!

I like the painting like effect to this work. It gives the picture a retro-look too.
The B/W treatment to the site also worked well here.
Well caught.

Have a nice weekend.

Best regards,
Paras

Hoi Roger,
Nice and moody capture of that lighthouse !
I don't think it is like a painting, because there are too many details. Painting are not so sharp and detailed normally.
Good PP work done.
Tfs
Joop!

Hi Roger, the work you did on this makes it feel like a shot from years ago, makes it really feel like an old lighthouse. Fiona

Roger,
Lighthouses are a personal favorite of mine. A excellent image to begin with here and the PP wotk achieves that old photo look with film grain, vignette, and sepia tone.
Excellent Result

Bonjour Roger,
Odile

Bom dia Roger
Love the way you have worked...the intensity and balance of black and white, and yes the feeling is that you painted a atmosphere.

Hi Roger! Beautiful composition, great work. Splendid. Best regards Csabi.

Hello Roger, you have created a feeling of isolation with your PoV and the PP work.
The buildings are still clear even in b/w and the graining effect, and yet their surroundings are hidden, leaving us to wonder just where the lighthouse stands. The dark clouds gathering around the top of the shot add an interesting mood.
Tfs, regards Jean.
