[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, or more simply the Carmelite Church, has a huge domed roof which is a Valletta landmark. The old church on this site was designed by the celebrated Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar in 1570 and suffered irreparable bomb damage in World War II. Construction on the new church started in 1958 and took some 20 years to complete; the reinforced concrete dome is 204 feet high and covered with local stone. The church contains paintings transferred from the old church by Calí, Preti and de Arena, together with a statue of ‘Our Lady of Mount Carmel’.

PP work: Converted to Sepia and increased contrast.

This is lovely!

Perfect composition and the choice to show this in high contrast sepia gives it the timeless feel of an old engraving.

I also think the frame is just right to compement the scene.

Really great image.

The Note is also interesting and informative - it is frustrating to see interesting places and not know where they are or their significance!

Regards,

Nigel

tfs regards bryan

Hi Francis,
I really like this shot. The details in the church and surrounding structures are excellent. The person on the boat is placed perfectly in the frame IMO. I love the sky and the sepia tones in this shot. Very nice work Francis.

Kevin

Hi Francis.
Beautiful shot of the Valletta landmark captured with wonderful DOF and the FG boat man with his perfect silhouettes makes beautiful FG texture which also creates nice DOF.
My best Wishes

A wonderful capture from the cityscape of Valletta, Francis!

I like the color tones in the picture.
The view is amazing especially because of the presence of the boatman.
The historic dome looks fantastic.
Well caught view!
