I prefer Photoshop over tone mapping in an HDR program as well. Although it is probably more work, the control over areas is much better. But than I am not a fan of HDR or similar techniques.
I do like the result of on this photo. I still looks believable in most places. The tones are nicely natural. I guess the natural contrast is slight affected by it.
There is one thing that I really like and was actually expecting to see from a longer lens. It is the compression of perspective.

What a great POV on this area of Italy. Very clear and sharp. Keep them coming.
The Amalfi coast was one of my favorite locations when I visited Italy years ago. This is a beautiful example of why. You have used the Nik software (don't you just love those control points!) to bring out the details that make your good shot extra good. So picturesque and handled with expertise. Thanks for the virtual visit to a spectacular place:)
This is simply beautiful, Roger!
Great view to the mountains over this historical city.
The sharpness and POV are excellent and what I like the most are the color tones of the facade of these buildings in the FG.

good pov for including the hazy hillside at the distance. perfect clarity and sharpness of the building at the front. nice capture of the silvery ripples. splendid image, well composed.
Lovely buildings. I like the way the coastline draw your eyes into the picture and the up with the buildings towards the top left corner. Well done. As you said, start with a good photo end slightly enhance with edit software - you cannot make a bad photo good.
An awesome landscape shot in this sqaure format with the FG in perfect sharpness and lighting and the BG in such softness, thus creating a 3D effect!
Great details in the architecture adorned with glorious lighting.
I really like this masterpiece and surely goes into my favorites!
Well done for this neat work.
My best regards,

Apart from the technical excellence of this shot it is also very artful.I think a blue sky and sun would have made it less impressive.Great job.Regards Otto.

Roger this is a beautiful shot. Wonderful composition and dof.
The sharp brighter buildings against the muted bg makes for a wonderful presentation of an incredible place. Nice job, Lori

I love how your work with the Nik HDR gives an almost hyper-realistic, 3-D rendering of the buildings, with very sharp details compared to thre original image.
Of course the basic compostion of the origianl image is great and the square formatting (which I am becoming an increasing big fan of) works extremely well with this image.
I am also trying more of the Nik HDR processing on some of my existing images with some great results.

Good work Roger,
the PP work has given it real depth, almost 3 dimensional
Boa noite Roger
It is a very beautiful place and your perspective and textures show it really well / as you tell in your note) with a great visibility...in the original it looks there is something that donīt allow us to see ...you had put " glasses" for us to see everything better,
The architecture shines with details, etc,
oh wow.. isn't this an amazing place???
I remember being right there... on the beach! I really loved that place....
I think you did a wonderful job working with the filters.
It's absolutely stunning and in fact it hardly shows.
If you would not have shared this info with us, one would never know! I love that subtle PP-work.
After all: photography should be about photography and not about PP-work.
An excelennt job Roger!
I think you have a beautiful shot here. Great angle and light and amazing details all over.

The buildings are sending my eyes tpoward the hill which is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the buildings. The post processing has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.
