Cold as Ice!
Hi Bev - I think there is a lot of class to this image. It has a timeless simplicity and beauty and exudes a sense of calm. The bare tree is lovely and sharp, the snow covered hills in the distance are well exposed and their reflection in the lake are a nice touch. I could easily see this on the walls of a Lake District hotel or bar - I like this a lot. I do, however, have a slight reservation about the angle of the shoreline. It is probably a bit of an optical illusion caused by the angle of the shoreline, but I am a little uncomfortable with the perceived tilt and personally I may have rotated this clockwise a wee bit. I'm also not a fan of signatures - here it could easily be cloned out and I find it distracting. Sorry, just a personal niggle. Also not sure about so much framing. Again, just a personal preference, sorry.
But the image itself really does appeal to me. The composition, the tones, the clarits of the bare tree - really very nice. Wish I'd taken this.

This is a lovely capture where you show not only the photographic aspect of this beautiful landscape but also an artistic approach too, Bev :-)
Great focus, and well kept depth in the picture. To opt for a B&W treatment to the shot, is a great idea.
The tree is doing magic against a breathtaking landscape in the far.
Hope you had a great entry into 2011 :-)

Un bien beau solitaire avec ces branches dénudées, qui ressortent parfaitement, en fond ces montagne avec la neige, quelle vue merveilleuse, le Nb colle parfaitement, très belle image de saison.
Bravo et amitié

Yes, it look very cold that I can feel it all the way to Las Vegas. Great pov and dof with clear sharp details. Good colors and textures. Well done, tfs.

This is beautiful Bev. I think black and white is perfect for this shot. I must say, I prefer the photo in WS - simpler frame and all :) Very well done.
Wishing you all the best for the coming year as well.

Yup the tilt was there. There is still some lens distortion visible on the left, but that is far from distracting. The tranquil feel you managed to capture is very beautiful. I like the space and the wonderful mountains in the distance. I do feel that if you had moved back just a little and gave the tree some room to stand on the photo would be even better.
Still it is a nice foto as is.

A nice monochromatic Winter view. Beautiful contrast, while maintaining the gray tones.
An agreeable POV with this solo tree being the focal point.
A considerble DOF and a very neat presentation.
The framework is complementing.
My best wishes,

Splendid landscape composed very professionally. I think frame is too wide and take place when view would be more size.

This is a classic!
Beautifully simple and with incredible sharpness and spot-on exposure, the stark, bare tree on the right gives depth to the picture and allows the eye to be drawn into the distance to the glorious snow-covered hills and their lovely reflections in the water.
As Richard (Kilted-Arab) says (and he's a very observant critiquer and never misses a trick), the horizon is not quite straight and could take 1° or 2° of clockwise rotation. That is my only (slight) criticism here. For me it's easy - I know I can't hold a camera straight and never have been able to do so - I have to straighten just about every picture I take!
Other than that, a lovely shot!

I was looking at this image the other day Bev and I have been again lured to it. I find the positioning of the tree excellent and needless to say the background is superb. Love the B&W
