Well, I'll open the theme this week...

A bit of fun here regarding my addiction to photography!! I've had an SLR camera in my hand since I was about 12 or so - hours were spent poring over developer and fixer trays under a red light during my teen years... So it really is an addiction - as my wife and boys will tell you as I want to stop yet again for another photo whilst we drive or travel anywhere! Also, as a beer fan of many years (since my teens again (early teens LOL)) I thought I'd get a pic with some of my camera beer in... My homemade Praktica Lager as you can see on the labels :-0

For this:
1. Take photo of old Praktica film SLR in a light-tent and make the 'beer' labels for Praktica Lager.
2. Stick labels to empty beer bottles (last night's addiction)
3. Black table top with props on; softbox to right of shot and a table lamp below and to the right of the photo to illuminate the side of my face. Black soot under my eyes for that slightly 'haunted' look.
4. Camera on tripod with remote shutter release and shot at ISO500 for a slightly grainy and gritty feel.
5. Minimal PP, just clone out a couple of hot pixels and a very little bit of dodging and burning, resized and sharpened.

RAW, 1/15 sec at f22 and ISO500 with wireless off camera flash.

I enjoyed doing this one!!!

Hi David,
Great PP work on this one . Very original and humoristic . You did a good job on the set up and the lamp gives just enough light to give a scary-dramatic image . Once again creative and well tought . Thanks for sharing your work .
Daniel

Haha ... great one David! Love your imagination, and the lenghts you've gone to, to get this shot. Very well done. Love the overall darkness in your shot, the dark circles under your eyes :), the few days of growth, your vacant stare at the squirting needle ... it all adds to the over all feel of addiction. Great work.
Trudy
(I've been carrying my camera with me everywhere, hoping to chance upon something unique to shoot for the addiction theme .. so far haven't found anything .. but I haven't given up yet:)

Hello DAvid

I am glad it's the beer and cameras and not those GIANT needles you are addicted too. Intertesting composition

JImmy

WOW!! One of your best ever David! You even LOOK addicted! That needle scares me! Excellent posting for the theme! You win! The darkness of the shot adds to the misery you feel! I think this is an addiction you can manage! You can quit anytime you want right? But why? You didn't even shave! hahaha!
B-)

Hi David,
I was sure you'd come up with something special! But here, you overtake all my expectations!
WOW! This is a perfect illustration for our addiction at all, on the site! Danger increases with the use!
You had a lot a patience for all steps on this production. This is cleverly done with this heavy atmosphere you created. More than a good photographer, you are an artist!
Annie

Bonjour David,

Hi David,
great set up with a great result for all the thought & work that went into this one,you are addicted, but in a good way.
Though I'm a bit troubled, you are a Pilot right,so how many beers do you knock off a day? I think I'll fly with you:-)
At 1/15 sec how did you get those liquid shots flying out of the needle?
TFS
Regards
Ron

Phantastic idea. BR JV

OLá David
Great moment to this theme...very well conceived and very well executed. It is very well played with a great sharpness and a real mood.
I don´t think I have a photo for the theme but I hope that good things of TL don´t finish.
Bravo
Um abraço

Hi David,
First of all a nice self-portrait showing off your character, humor, lover of beer and the addiction to photography (I'm leaving out the injections which I wish you don't use at all)!
Wonderful light and accurate sharpness.
Great exposure management and a superb creative presentation.
Nice droplets coming out of 'the needle'!
Well done,

Francis Xavier

Hi David,

Wow, this is a winner. Clever and disturbing, perfect for the theme. It looks like you put a lot of thought and work into this, TFS.

Regards,
Werner

This is GREAT David! Nice to see you! Like you, I've had the addiction since high school (photography, not beer....and I was even a high contrast fan back then)

I like the creative use of the addiction along with all of the elements. Can't think of a think I would change except to convert to black and white (kind of like the old bw films we saw as teens warning us of drugs). Lisa

HI David..interesting shot...creative and well done.

ha, great !!!
Both addictions here, too ...

tis is a nice idea and very well worked out!!!

Hello David,
I thought I would be an addict but I can can see that you need some help my friend - ha,ha,ha.
But as long as you can combine flying the planes and drinking East German Practica lager through the injection needle that is O.K.
2 point for the creativity and for the time you have invested.
Regards Caesar

Thank you for opening this very interesting theme, David.
I reckon there is something for everyone here, and it will help us all to learn a little more about the people who contribute to the site.
You have taken a lot of time and effort with this shot, testified by the quality of the result. It is entertaining, amusing and very well composed. I love how the decreasing bottles lead to you, the sleep deprived addict!! The illumination on your face is perfect!
I am a littl worried though about all those syringes ...!

Have a gtreat w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello David,

Just Fabulous!

Oh dear, I just wish that I had the time but, more importantly, the imagination and the skills to produce a picture such as this.

This is just wonderful - a great idea, wonderfully executed and technically perfect with terrific details, sharpness, colours and lighting. Really stunning.

Congratulations on a terrific posting. I'm adding it to my favourites.

Best Wishes,

John.

Hi David
Great work of composition to the theme... I love the label of the bottles
Congrats for the the creative theme, and for your contribution for it
mb

This is a fantastic composition to the Friday's theme, opened by you, DAvid :)

I like your real feelings for photography and somehow serious expressions :))
The labeling on the bottles is an additional bonus, however, the whole atmosphere is really cool and well thought.
Great job!

Please take rest on weekend as you seem really tired from photography ;-)

Best regards,
Paras

Bonsoir David,

Nice contribution to the theme. It illustrate well your "passion". Good "mise en scène" (setup). Dramtic lighting creates the ambiance. I rather drink the beer instead shooting it in my vein, but it's probably active and rapid your way. Just kidding. Nice work, I like when people make pictures instead of taking pictures. TFS.

Alain

A good addiction David and a very imaginative composition very well done.
I like particularly the nice lighting and extraordinary sharpness and exposure,
Best regards.
R.

Congratulations David on this great composition!
Technically, the picture is perfect, but I like especially your fun idea and the perfect realization.
You have a great skill to create advertisements! :))
Have a nice week.

Hi David

An imaginative use of props for the theme & astute photoshop work too by the look of it. But reading the note, it seems you did it the old fashioned way, so extra brownie points all round! Tfs!

Hi David,

This is great! It shows your addiction in just the amount of effort you went through to set up this just one shot (though I'm sure you took a couple extras so you'd have a choice). Super original and wonderfully funny - and technically about as perfect as it can be!

Thanks
Reed

Hi David,
Excellent work and details,
beautiful composition for the theme,
good presentation to Addicted to Photography,
well done.
Michel

Seriously, where do you find the time to do this stuff? That aside, awesome dude! TFS

Hi David,
This is a gorgeous idea, apparently we have the same addiction, OK you started with a Praktika, my first camera was a Zenith. Anyway this is a perfect composition well executed with perfect light. Like the droplets from the syringe, your eyes, your look is even frightening :-)
Stunning show my friend! One of the best post on TL the last year!
Hans

hi david, nice to meet you! you look like a photography surgeon! nice to see your dedication to the craft, i am also somewhat addicted! your work looks great and all so very sharp which is very nice to see,
all the best,
thanks scott

Good grief! How did we drag you up?!

Some interesting admissions here. The photo is hilarious and must have taken a lot of thought and effort to produce.

Just seen this - and for the thought that has gone into it, the preparation, the note and the execution it is fully deserving of full marks - really very well done.

No idea who the guy is the image is, but i wouldn;t let him near a skateboard, let alone a jumbo...

Hi David

Very original composition, well thought out and end result is great

Sorry to read about your health in your profile, hope 2011 brings you health wealth and hapiness

No doubt...you are addict...!!!!hehehehehe
Great job David too much work for this fabulous result...
