|Jammu and Kashmir boasts some of the most striking rocky desert anywhere. Ladakh, sandwiched by the High Himalayas and Zanskar mountain range is populated by gentle, peace loving and hard working people. It is the home to some staggeringly beautiful monasteries which have been constructed in some of the most exposed and dramatic sites you will ever see. The monasteries are struggling to survive, and their lifeline lies in these youngsters who are needed to perpetuate the Buddhist practices of centuries. |
Recently, the area was struck by flash floods. Being desert like, most constructions are of mud. As a consequence, many families have lost everything material. The area is rich in spirit, and therefore the community will pull together to look after its own; as it has done for generations.
