[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I don't have much time to get out and about with my camera right now - so a portrait from my archives of earlier in the year.
My son Michael - posing for me in his school uniform. He's off to a new school this month so a new uniform has been paid for (they're not cheap!!!).
One softbox to left, flash with blue gel behind - I kept half of his face in shadow deliberately for definition.

This has a lovely crisp clean feeling to it. What i find intriguing is the "knowing" look on your son's face - great timing on THAT capture!

Hold the girls back!!! My goodness what a handsome dude! You make good kids David! I like the light behind him, that really adds to the shot. I have a yellow band on my arm....what is the GREEN one for?
B-)

David, you could set up and do the yearly school portraits!!
Background color with the blue gel is perfect, and leaving half of him more shaded was a good choice too. Nice catch-light in his eyes, and little shine on his lips. He's a handsome boy, and has very stylin' hair :):)
Cheers, hope you are well
Trudy

The lighting is absolutely spot on David - great capture of details. It is not always easy to use coloured gel for the backdrop, but you have applied it well and it is quite lending to the mood of the portrait.
Yes, Michael is a 'dude' and he looks quite camera friendly.

Boa tarde David
A portrait from someone to close is something special from us. He is very handsome, full of charcter and mood, wonderful funny eyes.
He looks great under your work with a good light , a chalenge posture and colors match so well with the sweet blue.
I love portraits.

Ha, ha, David, my immediate thought was that you'd begun a school photography service! All schools employ a photographer for 'end of year' shots. Fancy it?
The light's lovely, revealing the contours of his face nicely, and sharing that delightful, impish expression.
There is a little pixelation in the b/g. Is it a textured wall or the effects of the light?

My warmest regards,
Bev :-)

Bonsoir David,

Good portrait. You're lucky to have such a photogenic candidate, camera don't seem to terrify him. Interesting light, classical Rambrant lighting, but very efficient and rendering good dimensionnal volumes. Graduated BG lighting is also more appeling than flat BG light. And of course you used a great lens for portrait which has excellent sharpness and leave plenty of space between subject and lens to deliver nice facial perspective and subject room to breath. Good work and TFS.

Hi David,
A great portrait of your son like the gradual light in the background. The smile is priceless the pose is perfect. Excellent composition taking care of the rule of thirds (it mostly works). Anyway a fine post on TL.

N.B. Stop whining about the boy's school uniform costs, you get your uniform for free :-)
