First trip to Calcutta in quite a while - as usual there is plenty to photograph! Dozens of children shouting for me to take their photos... Very noisy but all good fun!

This was a group of girls - making far less noise than the boys but still willing to pose...

Minimal DOF, it was nearly dark so I went for a very selective focus to maximise the light.

RAW, no change to the original.

1/80 at f1.6, ISO500 and 85mm portrait lens.

Hi David,

amazing narrow DOF accomplished by the f1.6
the girls in background are not far, but still unfocused.
i can see the light conditions were low because there is a subtle overall OE that helps the image not to be dark thru the ISO sensitivity.

that lens is great, I am jealous ;)

Hi David,

This is really nice. The children in front have great facial expressions (actually the ones in back do too) and are making excellent eye contact with the camera. The shallow DOF works nicely as well. We clearly see the expressions of the children in the bg, but there is nice separation with the main subjects.

Best regards,
Werner

Fantastic David ... love those very cute faces, and their charming sweet expressions. I like your choice of shallow DOF ... the background girls with their happy smiles still visible, but the two in the foreground are clearly the stars!! Love the shine in their eyes!
You sure get to see some very interesting places ... envious :)
have a nice weekend
Trudy

Hi DAvid,

Smile of India!

They look so adorable and cute, seems as if they are smiling right from the core of their hearts.

The technical aspects of the shot, are well managed though presence of poor light conditions. ISO 500 gives a great boost to the work and I think was an optimum choice.
I think I located you, in their eyes :))

Best greetings,
Paras

girls are far more humble than boys, boys are idiots when so young.

there is a lot to like in the photo, especially each girl's different expression, but i do think that there is some need of a somewhat punchy contrast here :)

i would love to travel to India sometime :)

Apart from your wide angle scenery shots, this is a great journalistic type photo of these kids in Calcutta. Too bad you had to use the f/stop of 1.6 so that the other toddlers weren't in better focus. But then, that's what happens when you don't have enough time to plan the photo. GREAT SHOT nonetheless!
