[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We had extremely strong winds on both Saturday and Sunday and most of the water in the Dundee Creek had been blown out into the Chesapeake Bay. When I went to the nature reserve on Sunday, it was almost deserted because of Mother’s Day. Because of the lack of human activity and the fact that the fish were now easier to catch, the bird activity was phenomenal. This Great Blue Heron just took off (his feet are flinging mud) looking for his next fish, which didn’t take long.

It was a partly cloudy day, so I had to continually adjust ISO to maintain a fast shutter speed as the sun went in and out of the clouds.

Thanks for viewing and have a good start to the new week.

Hi Werner,
Another quality wildlife shot from you, good choice of high ISO when the light is like that, it can so easily sap the colour from an image in an instant! You have caught this one beautifully on take off, the smaller details are superbly caught and pin sharp too, like the muddy water off it's feet - frozen in mid air, brilliant. The composition of the photograph is great too giving the bird space to fly into and great DoF to bring the main focus to the Heron. Great work. Best wishes
Bri

HI Werner,
A wonderful wild life shot at its best, this is very interesting and decisive moment composition of this bird, the diffused lighting and well exposure and beautiful details of your subject are all this elements which make it a wonderful and truly wild shot.

Wow Werner, you are really getting some great heron shots!! I'm so impressed.
This looks just great to me .. composition, sharpness, color, action .. you've got it all here. What a graceful looking bird with its curved neck.
Very well done my friend.

Bonjour Werner

Yolande

Hi Werner,

What a delightful shot from Heron with such marvelous details!

I like the eye of the bird, you captured with razor-sharp focus and the perfect contrast to the surroudings. The colors are natural and the timing was just perfect!

Well done!

Kind regards,
Paras

Hi Werner,
You have certainly caught the details with this Heron capture.
Good clarity, just look at that wet mud falling off its feet
& sharp details of its feathers.Well taken IMHO.

Hi Werner,
what elegant Blua Heron. What elegant pose you catch.Thin black frame is also so elegant.Perfect work my dear friend.TFS.Necla.

Great timing, the pose is beautiful.

What you say about adjusting ISO continually is something that also happens to me in cloudy days or evenings, hahaha.

I guess f/5.6 is the widest aperture for 300mm and it is enough to accomplish a great DOF effect, like you did here.

Good shot Werner, one to be proud of.

Hi Werner,

I know it seems like it should be an easy thing to do to capture a good quality heron in flight shot, but I know that it's not. You have really good details in your photo. I always look for the little wisp of feathers at the back of their heads -- as you have presented. The colours of the huge bird's wings and body are excellent. Well done! TFS.

Regards,
John

Hello Werner,an excellent composition, and excellent timing to capture the heron in flight. The shot is so sharp that we can see the droplets of mud falling from its feet as it takes off.The blurred bg accentuates the sharpness of the details of the heron, well done.
Regards Jean.

Hi Mate,

Awesome in-flight capture of a pretty heron.
The details and colour looks very precise and accurate.
TFS and have a nice day MF!
Cheers,

Bayram

beautiful timing

Am fascinated by herons and have been looking to take a shot like this. Excellent! I'll keep on trying, remembering yours, down to the curved drops of water off the foot.
Cheers,
John
