[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello Everybody!

I think it's time for some blues again.

The blues is not a sad style of music, it is more uplifting and at times more celebratory than others. Having the blues and listening to the blues is not the same thing, as many folks who are uninitiated into this genre of music, might believe. Of course, listening to the blues while you have the blues can change your attitude and mood 100%. That's why they are there.

I find myself uplifted by music on a daily basis - and I listen to many types - but nothing does it for me like the blues. Had I been born a musician, I would play the blues. Every single day.

Some of you all might be wondering just what happened to me for the past month or so.

I got the blues. I had the blues, but I forgot to listen to the blues, to let them uplift me, to change my attitude, to rectify my mood.

I thought I needed a vacation, so I scheduled some time in Florida to spend fishing with my uncle. Before I left, someone asked me if they could use one of my photographs that I had posted on TE. That person was Shane Dwight's manager, he wanted to put it on the cover of Shane's upcoming DVD release. I gave him permission and it actually got published, my shot graces the cover of the DVD.

I knew about this before I took my most recent hiatus from TL. I was afraid to say anything about it, lest it not happen. I left for Florida and a quest to get my mind right.

While in Florida, I went to Jacksonville Beach for three days for the 20th Annual Springin' The Blues Festival. Shane Dwight was one of the headliners. He and his manager Robby Z made sure I got hooked up with a VIP pass and backstage to take a few shots of Shane and his band playing. It was just what I needed. Three nights and two days of the blues strengthened my soul.

This is one of my favorite shots from the festival. It shows ChuckEChuck (Chuck Saunders), lead guitarist of the local Jacksonville, Florida band "Woody & the Peckers." They are incredibly talented and just a whole lot of fun! I really enjoyed hearing them play and watching them. I like this one because it shows Chuck doing his best "Weekend At Bernie's" imitation and of course those wildly reflective sunglasses. You can see the entire crowd in them. Oh, if you could have heard him play, too!

When I came back to St. Louis I decided to retire from my job as an Operations Manager of a large hospital system. This is my first week of "retirement".

I hope you all can hear the blues today. I'll be slowly back to posting and critiquing as I get my retirement rolling here - it is proving to be busier than real work!

Aww this is cool!! Really sharp, really nice clarity here! LOVE the cool cat glasses! There is nothing like the blues! You captured him well! I like his positioning in the frame Reed!

Fantastic shot Reed, and glad to see you back!
You've placed him really well in this shot, and of course for me - the stand-out feature are his glasses and the great crowd reflection. Amazing that you were able to shoot him without a whole lot of distractions behind him - that's always a problem with shooting on a stage. So kudos for that!

I hope you're enjoying retirement so far, and that you're figuring out your new life. Exciting!! :)

Nice photo Reed - very sharp and clear subject - the shades make this pic though with their own colour and light. Blue glasses for the blues!!

I thought perhaps you had taken off on a well earned vacation
had no idea you had the blues,the bad sort, not the happy uplifting soulful type. Glad your back to being yourself as your notes state. Congratulations on choosing retirement over
the running of a large hospital,which has to take its toll.
Looking forward to viewing more of these uplifting images,now that you have the time to spend on the camera's shutter button:-)Welcome back.

Hi Reed,

The note alone is already worth the smiley. I agree: gotta love The Blues. The little guitar I play is...The Blues. And so, you got to love this guy with the glasses and the sideburns too. Nice cropping showing just enough guitar.
