Penguins on the beach

When traveling through the Cape peninsula I visited Boulders beach near Simon's Town. I was quite surprise to see so many penguins enjoying the sun :-)
An other weird observation, these fellas, called the African penguin or Jackass penguin, read below why....

Used CP filter.

PP work: hardly any, shot in Raw, converted to jpeg and adjusted levels and curves. Used lens correction to straighten the horizon. Sharpened with USM, resized and add frame.

From Wikipedia:

The African Penguin (Spheniscus demersus), also known as the Black-footed Penguin, is found on the south-western coast of Africa, living in colonies on 24 islands between Namibia and Algoa Bay, near Port Elizabeth, South Africa, with the largest colony on Dyer Island, near Kleinbaai. Because of their donkey-like braying call they were previously named Jackass Penguins. Since several species of South American penguins produce the same sound, the African species has been renamed African Penguin, as it is the only penguin species that breeds in Africa. The presence of the penguin gave name to the Penguin Islands.

Hi Hans

What an unusual scene you have captured here, never think of penguins on a beach.
The penguins help to show the size of these rocks, nicely saturated colours of the sky and sea.

Hi Hans, It is good to penguins without ice for a change, maybe the future for more of them with fears of global warming. Good and unusual image of these lovable looking large birds. We have similar but maybe smaller ones at east of Melbourne, but no where as many as you show us here.

You are visiting wonderful places Hans. I regret that there are no such possibilities. But your photographs are compensating me for it.

Hans,

What a great shot to see all of the penguins next to the water. This is something that many of us will never see in our lifetime. It looks like a beautiful day to be basking in the sun with your new found friends. :)
