Of course, subject choice is often a personal thing - maybe not everybody finds this subject appealing, but I realise that you do.
Perhaps next time you could try an alternative lighting? Your camera's pop-up flash creates a very harsh, "flat" looking light, which detracts from the subject.
Natural light from a window, a doorway, or similar, would cast a more interesting light.
