A Happy new year to everyone.

Another visit to Gibson Mill.
Gibson mill is a 19th century cotton mill that sits at the heart of Hradcastle Crags.

The mill has been brought back into use as a facility for visitors and the local community.
It is being run with minimal impact on the environment;notice the solar panels on the mill roof.It is not connected to the National Grid.

Gibson Mill was built around 1800 and was one of the first generation mills of the Industrail Revolution.
The mill was driven by a water wheel inside and produced cotton cloth until 1890.

I chose this shot,[a new post] because it reminds me of a lovely day in October when we were visiting places that we hadn't been back to for about 30 years!

Thanks for looking.

hello Jean,
Happy New Year. I like the autumn colours here. I can imagine being their and enjoying that special autumn atmosphere(that includes the slightly musty smell of fallen leaves).A place I must visit as Hebden brisge isn't a long drive from here.

Hello Jean,
it is wonderful to see these treasures preserved.
Wonderful details and autumnal colour.
A wonderful spot for sure and well captured here.
Happy new year,
Joni

Hello Jean,

A lovely post, truly capturing the atmosphere of the locality and the details of the building. You have achieved this cleverly by your pov, which uses the natural beauty of the vegetation as a frame for the delightfully sharp rendering of the mill.
Excellent saturation.

I was there at the beginning of December but the rainy weather was not so condusive to good photography! We did, however, see the volunteers creating beautiful Christmas decorations from the holly, laurel and beech.

All the best,
Bev :-)

A beautiful subject and good colours in this shot. I can see why it's a favourite - what a location!

It is a very 'busy' subject - with so much in the frame, and let down a tad in the upper left quarter by the strong light coming from the sky.

I actually wonder if zooming in on the centremost building would have fixed several issues: it would create a narrower DOF and reduced the competitive impact of foreground and background elements; it would also have omitted that over-bright sky and drawn the viewer in to that delightful stone structure and the moss-covered roof. :)

Anyway, just some random (very picky) thoughts about what is a lovely shot.

Thanks for sharing, thank you always for the feedback, and all the very best for 2010!
