Champagne Pool at Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, Rotorua

This photo shows the colourful layers at the edge of the Champagne Pool at the Artist's Palette at the Wai-O-Tapu Scenic Reserve, Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand.

This geothermal sightseeing attraction is just 30 minutes south of Rotorua and allows visitors to view a wide range of stunning natural features including geysers, mud pools, mineral terraces, hot and cold pools plus steaming volcanic lakes.

I thoroughly enjoyed Wai-O-Tapu. We spent about 3 hours walking a 3 km track around the many different geothermal sights there.

I reckon this is probably the best of the thermal attractions in the Rotorua area, and certainly the most varied, with many interesting and unusual things to see at every turn.

There are sulphur vents, craters, geysers, silica terraces, and beautiful pools in spectacular colours, coloured by minerals bubbling up from the earth's crust - these have to be seen to be believed.

We were very impressed with this geothermal wonderland. The Champagne pool especially was astonishing with its vivid colours and bubbling water.

Welcome back, Janice!

You've been missed! So you were in Rotorua! Strong, & well captured colour contrasts, between the orange & turquoise. Good sharpness & diffused light. The people add scale. Tfs!

Hi Janice,
Did I see this before? :-) Of course I did, with my very own eyes! Great capture of the champagne pool, vivid red colours of the iron oxide minerals, nice low POV creating a great image. Hope you have had a great time in Roturua!
Hugs...kia ora!
Hans

I really am a fan of the champagne pool, although it also creeps me out - knowing how deep it is, and how hot!
Great capture, this is just as I remember it.

I like this one, Janice - the choice of portrait, the colours, the composition and the capture of the steam are all good...and a nice note as well. Good posting.

Hi Janice,
How I like this awesome view!
You did a good choice with the vertical composition which enhances the great perspective and depth of the site . The smoke is well captured and the intense colors very eye-catching! Bravo! Annie

Hello Janice!

This is very curious place and splendid information about him.
Very pretty formulation in original and beautiful colours and light.

I congratulate formulation and realization and I greet.

I can smell the sulphur Janice and feel the heat rising from the pool, amazing transition of colours that the minerals create.

Hello Janice!
Fantastic water and very nice point of view!
I would like to see this place, live.
Best regards!
Lili

hello Janice,
What I like the most is the layers of color! The human element is imo special and gives the size more meaning! Wonderful notes as well

Hi Janice,
I see you had a nice stay in RotoVegas, this shot is stunning.
Beautiful colours, good composition and DOF, just a little tilted though.
Other than that, I can't fault it.
Pete.

Beautiful colours and detail Janice. I havnt been in that one. The one i went to was a loop road off to the left of the road into this place. I think lol. Thanks for showing. I like it.
Cheers. Keith

Hi Janice
This is stunning, the orange floats beautifully in this capture. I was down in Roto a few week ago and enjoyed the place so much. A helicopter POV would show this place in it's full glory for sure. Reminds me very much of yellowstone NP in USA, but to me, Rotorua is better. Wonderful note and capture, I hope all is well with you.
Regards
Jim
