Old men next to the wall that encircles the village of “San Gimignano”, near Florence (Italy), waiting for the tourists that invade the city in successive and uninterrupted waves.

«San Gimignano» is a charming hill town of 7000 inhabitants, which has preserved its medieval appearance more completely than any other town in Tuscany.

The town is famous for its numerous towers which make it conspicuous from a great distance and provide one of the most remarkable sights in Italy. It is possible to walk along the 13C walls from which there are fine views of the rich agricultural farm land which surrounds the town.

Tells the history that the characteristic towers of the town was where the rich families lived in; and the height of each one of these towers gave a public notice of the wealth of each one of these families. Witch means that the more high was the tower richest was the family who inhabited it.

You can find more information about “San Gimignano” in my previous posting «made in italy_14».

Nice work my friend!Great shot.Regards.A.

Boa noite Jose,

perfect mood in the photo to match my mood in the past couple of days. Wonderful choice to convert this image to B/W, because it really adds up something special to this image...some undetermined feeling.

I like how you have composed this image...mighty wall, that has been standing there for centuries and small people, fragile creatures that last only...a moment. This is good way to show how 'big' we really are...Well, maybe we are big..bigger than eyerything else in the world, even if our time is limted...we are mighty in our brains, our thoughts, our deeds.

Obrigado para mostrar esse lugar maravilhoso.

Um abraço,

Stasa

Boa noite Jose
There are little things...that time doesn´t change. Just old men spending time talking each others and in the door of the village like gardians. Lovely mood of eternal gradians of old villages.

Hi Jose,
I think that this is the first clear inclusion of people in your splendid "Made in Italy" serie!
Excellent choice of this typical scene of these old city invaded by the tourists! You did it discreetly and the result is so timeless.
Beautifully done! Annie

this light... I should stop looking at your pictures at night =)
I have been shooting for a while with my 50mm and my 85mm lenses - but perspectives like this make me want to get my wide angle lens out of the closet...
this picture, more than others, has a strange, fascinating eerie atmosphere...
good night =)

Ciao Jose.
Interesting shot with fascinating and dark atmosphere.
The walls inclination let the eyes to go throughout the full picture. The old men (retired men I suppose) is a typical road view of the small cities in Italy.
Well done

Hello dear friend Jose.
Very photogenic picture with the old Italians included.
In Sicily where our son lives, (Scordia) it is also very common that the 'old Boys' occupying the whole street, while 'Madam' prepairs the dinner at home.
Dont try to drive through that street, even the Police will have a word with you, haha
Complements Jose.
Ciao ciao from Jan

hi Jose

Very interesting to see that you have found them standing around the wall in winter and presenting your POV in B&W for your series of Made in Italy. I wonder why the class is always part of society in Italy and India, and it is lasting till today. A fine TL post.

Hi Jose
Seems no one has asked why do they wait for the tourists.
Are they to be guides or are they looking for what this crisis is building a handout?
This reminds me very much during the depression when people would amass this way in the hopes of getting a job or being picked for one.
Excellent shot.

Hi Jose..nice black and white shot..great range of tones..nice details.

Hi Jose, Your photos are interesting and somewhat timeless. The darker colours give a sort of brooding atmosphere. The notes add a lot of spice to this scene. We don't have many such walls here, so good to see this medieval structure. TFS. Murray.

O meu elogio,
