[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My posting of today was taken at the door of a church in Sienna. This church hadn’t any signalization in the «tourist guide» - reason why I can’t give her name.

However, when I was passing by I was strongly impressed with the brutal beauty and strength of the statue with a skull in one hand and a book on the other on the left side of the church’s door.

It reminded me the ink draws that Gustave Doré made to illustrate «The Divine Comedy» of Dante Alighieri; or the 50’s classic comic, in b/w, «Flash Gordon» by Alex Raymond. I was fascinated.

What can I say about that statue, ignoring her name or the name of church?
Well, following the traditional interpretation of the catholic «saint’s iconography» seems that the «skull» means patience, penitence and sacrifice; and the «book» means, the word of God, the Bible, and Faith. But it can also be an allusion to the faith of «St. Catherine of Sienna» - her head is in a reliquary in St. Dominic's Basilica (You can see more details in the note to my previous photo).

I prefer to see the «skull» and the «book» in the statue's hands as an allegory to the physical and the intellect; to the body and the mind; to the bone and the word; to the pain and the joy.

You’ll choose what you see; I only hope you enjoy.

Merveilleux cadrage sur cette statue et toujour la recherche de la perfection danhs tes images, ce rendu sur les pierres est grandiose.

Bravo et amitié

Dear friend,
first I want to say that I enjoyed reading your beautiful note.

And for the photo, I am repeating myself, I know, but again, your work has "something" and I do not know what makes it so special and has so special atmosphere. It doesn't matter if it is bw or color, it has that "something" that always takes my breat away!

Have a great weekend!

Hello Jose,
Again, a nice historical texture.
Your unique style...
Congrats my dear friend
Selahattin E

hi Jose',
the bone and the word, the physical and the intellect... these are days of dichotomy for me, and your image underlines this state of mind of mine.
you gave the composition a strong vertical push, like an attempt to rise from the ordinary to the extraordinary, or from the body to reach the mind...
I think we can find symbols everywhere - we just need to stop every now and then to "see" them. like you do.

Really, see the sense of the brain that provide the highest energy consumption is heard. People, I doubt they can come close to. But to see, is enough to believe. Everything is not as visible. thank you

WOW Jose...very GOTHIC! Like an old spooky movie! I like how the statue stands out on it's own. But the SHADOW on the wall is the spookiest!! Really works well in this greenish sepia color! Nice work! I'll have something scary for you this weekend!

Salam Jose
Very nice capture with excellent mood
Great details and POV, your PP works here are professional
Regards, Alireza :)

Hi Jose,
Very nice perpective and details,
Excellent POV. and light,
very sharp and clear,
My compliments

It's always difficult for me to photograph statues. here you've managed to show the dramatic tension of the character of stone.
Exposure and tones you have chosen well transcribed this little world of stone and brick.
Moreover, there is the reflection of sky in the window that is involved in the strange and magical atmosphere of the scene.

Good picture,

Boa noite Jose,

muito bem captada. Gosto muito do b&w, da composição e da luz.

The very first thing that I noticed about your image (without reading the note...I always look at the image first and then I read the note) was the skull and the book and the first thing that came to my mind was (maybe because of the atmosphere this image reflects)...our bodies will not last forever, but our thoughts and works will stay for the next generations, because mind can never vanish.

Great shot.

Have a nice weekend,

Ola Jose!
It's very moody composition, which makes me association with Umbero Eco's novels. I love your photos took with this wide angle lens. Your compositions have your inimitale style, I like it!

Ciao Jose

....................bem assim ....................
Composição com excelente visual nas cores e exposição.
O contraste no design arquitetura é interessante aqui.
Uma bonita luz ao fundo define o lado esquerdo e deixa
a luz levemente iluminar a escultura.
Bem feito! De muito bom gosto!

Hi Jose...

Just lovely and impressive shot as always!
Nice picture, the composition and view...
Perfect details and PP work.
Best regards,

yes josè, the symbols and teh dichitomy , but also the uplift of the statue's eyes and the upward lift of the perspective of your shot ... the spiritul level that lifts us form earthly worries and consoels us in sadness, but also the upward gklace of hope and exoectation when something new happens. you know these are days of novelty for me and yet the past stays powerfully with me everywhere everyday...

Boa noite jose
I saw...i like it but i Forget to point the photo.
I like the prespective and love the work specealy when the stone seems like a almost silk tissue.
The sculture is very interesting with the skull and the book but I like very much your work on it.
My regards

Hi Jose!

Nice shot! I like b/w here and strong light accent!
