The Colosseum, (or Flavian Amphitheatre) is one of Rome's most famous buildings and enduring monuments to the culture of the ancient Romans

This is my 3rd note about the Colosseum (the 2 previous notes are posted with my 2 previous photos) and for it I choose some of the following curiosities (*):

- There were no less than 76 numbered entrances and 4 additional reserved for the Emperor, other VIP's, and gladiators.

- The Colosseum was designed for easy crowd dispersal; the entire audience could exit the building in five minutes. The interior was divided into three parts: the arena, the podium, and the cavea.

- The audience, upon entering, climbed sloping ramps to their seats, according to gender and social class. For inclement or very hot weather conditions, an enormous, colored awning (velarium) could be stretched overhead to protect the crowd.

- A wooden floor covered subterranean chambers where the gladiators and animals were kept waiting to perform. There is some debate over the idea that the Colosseum was occasionally flooded for mock naval battles. There were canals in place that could have been used for this purpose but the brick used in construction was not the same type of material that they normally used in water resistant materials.

- The Colosseum was the Empire's primary stage for gladiatorial combat for nearly 4 centuries. In a show of Rome's wealth and extravagance, during the opening ceremonies in 80 AD, 100 days of the games were held.

Hi Jose:

Very nice POV. I like the dark colors. It takes you back to the Roman Empire and the lives that were lost in that arena.

Did you ever seen the 1972 Bruce lee movie ''The way of the dragon""???

Bonjour José
I feel crushed by these monumental walls; and what is waiting for me when I shall be in front of a lion or even another gladiator ? Even this blue sky doesn't rest my mind..

HI Jose
Love the dark moody atmosphere giving a bit of intrigue to the architecture, and hiding the sun using those large portals gives a spectacular view.

Hi Jose, I like this series a lot as it takes us "back stage" of this historic landmark so as to lear more about this rather spooky place. The notes add a lot of new data too. The tones are suitable. TFS. Murray.

Hi Master
Wonderful capture and place
Great light and perspective
Take care

Olá José,
Fazer mais uma foto do Coliseu é um desafio pelo risco de estar fazendo apenas mais uma fotografia de um ícone.
Mas você conseguiu um excelente resultado trabalhando com luzes e sombras.
Parabéns, amigo

These structures lend themselves well to your vision Jose.
I love the sense of history and epic mood.
You have done really well here.

Hi Jose,
Very impressive architecture. Good sharpness and colors. Very good POV !!
To my taste it is a bit too dark ... but that helps for the mood-expression.
