Driving up the 'Sheikh Zayed Road' in Dubai last night.. I had been photographing other things, but set the tripod up behind me in the car and fired off a few shots..Cropped slightly, played with the levels a little too.

same by plane

AMAZING shot David! I love show the road looks like you are moving about 200mph! You are very creative, but at least you aren't in the back seat holding the camera with the car on Cruise! HAHA! Super colors here!

Reminds me a lot of This shot by Jens, David - great effects in both examples and the idea of setting up a tripod in the car is one I never think I would have come up with. Produced some great effects/light trails.

In this one almost looks like there are some headlights coming stright for you - and on the Sheikh Zayed Road that is perfectly possible :-) Probably even likely...!

Hi David,
Cool shot. Nice effects from the slow shutter speed. I don't know you kept the tripod from falling down. Nice creative work here.

Hi David. Clever setting with fine camera control. Stunning shot with high impact.

Whoa, that's a little crazy!! I've heard about that highway. It looks like you're paying good attention to the road though. Very imaginative shot. This is not something I would have ever thought of, or had the patience to make happen.
At least your steering wheel is on the right (left) side of the car ... and it does not look like the heater is on!!! Must have been a balmy night:)
Great shot David.

Interesting night shot while driving, I like it, nice colors and movement effects. TFS

This is great David, what a clever shot you did here. The trails of lights is eyecathing specially in the mirror of your car while you're running a higher speed. Fantastic shot!

Amazing shot David,
The lights in the wing mirror are great. with the 28 sec exposure I presume the car was stationary - it doesn't look like it from the shot with light trails both sides of the car.
I have tried similar shots with the tripod in the back seat but I had to sit beside it and hold it steady.
well done

Great idea, well executed. This is the kind of creativity that photography needs - to boldly go where no ASA has gone before :) !!

Nice idea that's created a brilliant effect. Judging by all the red lights passing you, you wer going nice and slow, but the impression of speed is phenominal.

Hi David, Ideal creative image for TL. I like the colours and dynamics a lot. TFS. Murray.

'hi david

nice shot and good idea for this photo
i like the reflection on the left side mirror.

best regards

Hi David

Very good idea and well executed.
Clear details considering the exposure time, I thought there might be more vibration.
Well done.

Regards Derek

Hi David...great original shot...very nicely done.

Hi David. I already tried this but mine is not as clear as yours! Good shot.

Hi David, This is wayyyyyy cool! How can you adjust to driving a car? So few gauges to see. It's very creative, imaginative, and something I'd like to try. I also like the lights in your outside mirror. How did you keep the tripod from moving?

Neat one! Keep up the good work. Lisa

Hello David,

This certainly gives the viewer an exciting experience. I like the way that the light trails appear to be streaming towards the window.
I think it is carefully cropped for most impact from the focal point.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Very interesting experiment having the camera on a tripod in the rear. It gives a bright, colourful image with a great feeling of motion. It is great to be creative and think up new ways of using the camera to obtain different kinds of images. Thanks for sharing.

Hi David.

This is very, very interesting work. Like I already told you I love your wide variety of different works and this one is something new and so nice to see in your gallery.

Have a nice week!

This is a classic way to express speed and action David,it lookd like youre on your way to a huge fine ;]]

hi david!
wow great motion and composition, detail are captured with beautiful colors, i see lots of harmony in them, blues red oranges...
nice very nice, feels like we have a sort of view of your way of life...motion fast motion.

I love this photo. There is a very attractive effect made by the wiped-clear area on the windscreen. Sheikh Zayed Road as I haven't seen it! The LHS mirror has lovely reflections in it and the rear view one happily shows concentration on the part of the driver!

Hi David,
This is an awesome image. With a tripod in a car f/16 and iso 100. What shutter speed did you used. The perfecttion is excellent, even the long exposed lights in the miror are superb! This is super nocturnal image in my opinion. Will add this to my favs :-)

this one is from long exposure.. beautiful work, David.. i had done similar but mine not so good as this one only the the neon lights can be seen.. not sure if i should post it to tl.. it was done august last year.. :)

well done.. this is fantastic..

regards, terry

looks amazing must say

Haha if anyone saw you you would've got some really funny looks! not every day you see someone setting up a tripod in the car...Very clever idea, and it worked very well!

Let me call this shot as DRIVING SHOT
the effect here is really good and dinamic
wonderful central sharpness and composition
good idea

have you considered the new d700 yet? i see no problems with the d200, but i think with your level of skills, you really could do well with the d700 and the 14-24 nikkor lens :) the d700 is the same size and feel as the d200, but the camera + lens combo is pricey :)

i love this shot, i can tell you own a nissan :) the monogram is almost readable :)

the idea is very original, and it looks like a scene from a michael mann movie :)

Great shot, lights are amazing, even in the side mirror...

David, an experiment gone good!!! Great framing and colors, and perfect shutter speed.

What an outstanding shot. Brilliant idea, wonderful smooth colours, perfect realisation.
