This is the male mate to the female in previous post. Here he has a black oil sunflower seed hanging from his beak. If you see one of these cardinals you know the mate is close by. During mating season I will see several pair feeding but in the winter usually only one pair, they become a little more territorial when food is scarcer. The other day I did see two pair here. During mating season the male will feed the female. I have seen one feeding it's mate right in the feeder. Photo taken through glass again from the warmth of my workshop. Shot in raw, cropped some & PP in PSE 6.

Thanks to all who view or critique! Hope you enjoy, :} Don

Hi Donald,
Wonderful bird at color fatastic nice close up. Good détail of bird .Nice capture . Good Job

Superb capture, Mr. Ainsworth! Of course, the most striking thing about your photo is the contrast between the bright red of the cardinal and the almost monochromatic background. Indeed, the feeder kind of blends into the background when contrasted with the red of the bird.

Aside from that, your composition is spot on. The verticals of the feeder and icicles are broken up nicely by the diagonal of the subject. Your DOF is perfect as well.

P.S. I used to travel through Wapakoneta quite frequently when I lived in Ohio. Birthplace of John Glenn if I recall correctly. Indian Lake isn't too far away and provides some good photo opportunities.
