Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie on the road to Skye in the Scottish Highlands. Probably one of the most photographed places in the UK as millions of tourists stop off and take their photos from the adjacent car park.

On this occasion I had spent the day up on the Isle of Skye, and on the way "home" (a small cottage on the shores of Loch Leven for the week) I noticed that the cloud was starting to break up a little and allowing some light from the setting sun to break through. By now the car park was empty of tourists and I had the place to myself.

Wonderful light and reflection, nicely composed and framed. Well done !
Greetings
Jean

Hi Miles - as you say, this place gets a lot of photographic attention and as a result you need to do something special to get noticed. Well, I reckon you've done that and then some. The castle and location are of course spectacular in their own right - but your photography has added a new dimension.

The lighting, the tones, the composition, the reflection - all wonderful. Nothing to get picky about - great shot.

You captive this really excellent, the last rays of the sun, the lights of the castle that all reflects on the river, you can feel that anything can happen....
Ecxellent compostion and POV, well done
greetings liesbeth

Miles

I echo all the comments above, I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect picture, but this gets pretty close.

Peter

Hi Miles,

This is probably the 10 millionth photo of the castle, but it's a cracker, the reflections are perfect and the cool blues and the warmth in the sky are just spot on.

Douglas

Hi Miles,
This is a wonderful shot the reflection of the castle in the water is brilliant. The overall colour is brilliant with clear sharp images. Well done and tfs.
Jon

Hello Miles,
The light and reflections are the main attractions here.
Also on the dark cloudy BG the castle stand out very well.
Well composed shot with excellent POV. :)

hi Miles

Beautiful look of this place!
I am amazed with the beauty of the colors and of the lukewarm lights
so much framing the castle, as in the reflex.
Of very good taste,
and very well composed!
Congratulations for the beautiful visual.

Hi Miles,
Well i was clicking my way around some galleries until i came upon your portfolio and there i am looking at this image , i certainly agree with all the commenters that you have got here one fantastic presentation of this very very well known Scotland attraction ! Whatever the pov you , me or anyone else for that matter get this scenic castle from, we all know too well this place has been shot from every inch of ground either side of it so therefore for this particular castle i don't think the POV is that important IMO , you only needed to come up with a less popular angle and wait until some ideal and special climatic conditions like those you had that evening , set up and Bingo ! You did just that , I think it is perfectly done , all 8 secs of it ! Great details in the stonework under a well managed light, a true stunner !
My compliments,
TFS,
Carol

aWOW.
That is a picture, should be forbidden, NOT to look at.
Perfect photograph, Miles.
Have seen a lot of beautiful Highlands shots, especially when i was active at Ephotozine. The Pictures of my friend "Highlander", are still in my mind, great respect I had for his abilities.
Best regards, Jan

Amazing display of light, amazing exposure control. Darn I wish I found your photostream earlier :)

Amazing shot Miles! Perfect balance between light and darkness and excellent reflections! Congrats!

Hi Miles,
you did this very well indeed :-)

Hi Miles,

Pretty shot at the blue light. Warm colors of the castle contrast beautifully against the dark blue sky. Reflexions are beautifull. Nice compostion. The Grad filter is an excellent idea to maintain sky and reflexion balanced in luminosity. Great work and TFS.

Alain

Simply beautiful, great sibject and great POV. TFS
