Camellia - Battered and bruised - but still beautiful

We have 3 Camellias growing in our garden. One has a beautiful pink flower. Another is pink and white, and this one is white with cream a centre.

Once the flowers appear the ground beneath these trees get covered in the colourful flowers. It can look really messy at times.

The camellia is arguably one of the most popular ornamental plants in New Zealand. Flowering in the Autumn and Winter and through to Spring they are a must for any garden.

Wind is the greatest source of damage to camellia flowers. Rain will not hurt them unless torrential or driven by a strong wind.

As a general rule, the lighter the colour of the flower, the more protection required.

They bruise easily, and need protection in exposed areas in the garden.

See, even this bruised flower can still look beautiful... We've had a lot of wind lately and this flower was damaged by being hit by other branches next to it.

I intentionally cropped around the flower to place it in the centre of the image.

Just yesterday I was looking at a flower at work with only 3 petals left and thinking how beautiful it still was :) and this is as well. Very nice detail. TFS

Hi Janice ;)
Beautiful, gentle...TFS
Best regards,
J ;)

They seem to bruise almost as easily as a gardenia Janice but as you say they can still be attractive. Very good detail and the square format works well,
Dave
