or should that be "partners in misdemeanour" ? I'm not sure if it's allowed to fish in the Kielpark pond...

Anyway, I was taking a stroll this afternoon and noticed these guys trying to catch some fish. I don't think they got very lucky though...

I'm reading a book by John Beardsworth, "Advanced Digital Black & White Photography". A relevation for me... in general, I prefer colour photos over b&w. But I admit that sometimes b&w does look better than colour.

So you can compare, I include the colour version here.

Tech talk

I converted the colour raw photo to black & white with Canon's Raw Image Task, then transferred the file to CS3.

Adjustment layers for levels and curves.

Slight crop.

Downsized for tl and framed with some home cooked PS actions and signed.

Some like it Hot, Frank.

Howdy Frank!
Very funny scene. Good POV. Original composition.
Regards!

Hello Frank!
Interesting black and white transfer. The mood imo is stronger in b&w.The composition is nice.TFS

Hoi Frank,
Prachtige plaat!

Hi Frank, I do like your Black and White photo here... it works really well on this photo.. it kinda looks like its been taken back in time..(you know in the good old days, :-)...1960 something!)..beautiful sunny day, two guys fishing, no worries, all good fun..the sun just kept shining, and life just ticked along rather nicely... thats what I feel when I look at this photo. :-)

Nice crop too Frank.

Cheers my friend
Dawn.

Most unusual for you Frank and the conversion well carried out. Nicely composed, good tones and fine detail in teh foreground grasses,
David

When I first joined TL I was not a huge fan of b&w, however I have grown to appreciate them much more! This is very well done, and I do prefer the b&w to the color version. A nice mood, and a comical title. TFS

Fantastic image. Great tones. We all waiting to get something - fish. BR Joerg

Hi Frank

An amusing title. But what crime? Oh, I see: 'Misdemeanour' Superb sharpness & tonal range, in this outstanding b&w image, and well composed, with a good high pov. Tfs!

Hi dear Frank ,
Very nice B/W shot.
Great composition and excellent light.
Weel done..
Kind regards

Dear Frank
Beautiful capture
Wonderful
Have a great Sunday
Friendly Greetings

Hi Frank,

Dawn's "no worries" describes your picture well.

Els

Hi Frank,
Well B&W certainly keeps your mind on the subject that image is attempting to portray and seems pretty effective to me when I compare the WS to the posting.
Good work, at least they got some sun if not any fish, and I hear that's what it's about most of the time anyway. ;)
TFS,
Wilt

Weeral een moeilijke ...
Mijn keuze is zeker de Z/W-versie !
Zou er precies meer contrast insteken
( dat is de balk in m'n eigen oog niet zien )
"tegenhouden en doordrukken " zie blz 27, 55 71, 73, 90,
92-101, 117, 124, 143, 162-163 en 179
>:-)

En zoals steeds: just my opinion, feel free to (dis)agree ;o).
TFS & groetjes,
Erik

Joeps Frank
Fijne compo.

The composition of all of your shots is terrific Frank. Again here, perfect placement of the two - and I like how your use of space emphasises how closely they're sitting together, it adds the 'awww' factor to the shot - which is that invaluable intangible!

I always go fishing with my brother too!Impressive B&W image with leisurely and carefree mood!Good POV!
Regards,

chiping

Your title makes me smile Frank , it tells the little story behind the scene , tech wise it's as good as it can be : the placement of your fishermen is great and i appreciate the thin band of grass at the top , sure puts the size of the pond in the know : it's pretty small ! No reason not to shoot in B&W, versus the color one in the WS ,i prefer this one if you want to know,, lol,
TFS,
Carol

A good composition and the picture definately has more impact as a b&w shot than as colour - the fishermen definately stand out more from the water.
Thanks for sharing
Mark
