The 'Real ' Willemstad, number 2 photo ,
taken with my Canon 30D

Treklens, here we are again in Willemstad - Holland

Like I stated in previous photo, also 'Willemstad '
There is one Willemstad in the Dutch Island of Curacao in the Dutch Antillles .

We are here in the real Willemstad, in town Center .. not directly to compare with London Center or Paris ..*_* .. however that can be just the charm of this little village

Photo taken with my Canon 30D and Sigma 10-20 .. at widest angle, 10 mm.

A lens I can recommend .. razor sharp and seen it in action with a few other TL members .. with good results

Than, the Canon 30D is a fine camera.. leaning to the more 'professional ones..
However soon I might buy a new Camera .. and I am thinking of the Canon 40D .. the Canon30D will have to go to a new owner.

Do not get me wrong.. the 30D Canon is the 'follow up ' of the 20D .. and it is an excellent camera. !

Thanks for your pop-in Folks

John T

Hello John, good perspective for this picture of this sleepy looking place.
The cloudy sky makes a good backdrop for the buildings. The block paving in the fg gives a great feeling of space.
I enjoyed reading the quote!

..John,
Maybe I know somebody for the camera
How much and with a lens?

Hi John,

Nice compo with the line of the trees. Willemstad. Hahaha, I was thinking about Willemstad in Curacao :-). The first thing I thought was 'Do they have Sligro on Curacao?!'. The second thing I thought was 'Hey wait a minute, this is way too organized for being the Curacao!!'.
Good to read that it actually is the province of South Holland. And yes, I agree with you. You can only photograph with one camera at a time ;-).

Greetings!
Dennis

Beautiful.
Love the pattern created by the street.
And what a beautiful view on that building.

Hello mon frere :)

I love my 30D!! I've got to keep it for a while! This is superb shot Johnnie! LOVE the criss-crossing lines of the Herringbone style brick work! A funny story... my ex husband was a brick layer and he told me only SMART people could lay a Herringbone path.... I did it the first time by myself, without him...he came home and was mad! HAHA! That is why he is my EX!

Will be waiting for the first posting with the 40D.
Like your POV here with the texture of the brick dominating the image. The sky impresses as well.

nice wide angle shot!
good sharp indeed as you said.
too bad they're quite expensive.
recently upgraded to new lens, so need to wait for a new body again...
if I plan to change that would be to 30D or 40D.

good luck with your choice.

Nice use of the open spaces John, well composed, good colour and a zillion repetitions. TFS,

Hello John,

Hello John,
Amazing shot, excellent composition and poiint of view, nice colors, excellent light and superb textures and shapesd, very good sharpness and wonderful depth of field.

Hi John...not sure why you'd go 30D to 40D, maybe there's a lens compatability issue, but i'd highly recommend you have a look at the 5D.

Another nice postcard shot of a lovely Dutch town, you and Hans should collaborate and produce a tourist book or get in touch with the tourism board, you take some attractive shots of your country.

TFS

Hallo John.
Met deze enorme voorgrond ziet het er 'Much bigger out' dan het is.

Hi John

One of these days, I'm going to buy a digital SLR, next time I go to the big city of Busan. What would you recommend?

I like the smoothness & repetition of the tiles in this image. Tfs!

Re the quote:

“For half a century photography has been the "art form" of the untalented."

Disagree. Being able to 'see' a good image is a talent you're born with.

"Obviously some pictures are more satisfactory than others, but where is credit due?"
to the designer of the camera?

Not necessarily. Gifted photographers can still get great images, with a cheap disposable camera, & untalented people can buy top of the range gear, & still take bad photos.

"To the finger on the button?"

I'd strongly agree with this one.

"To the law of averages?”

Only to a certain extent. As my learning curve went up, my images got better: Trial & error.

Hi John,
Fantastic angle and composition,great photo.
Best regards,
Ralf

Briliant shot here John. Love the POV and pattern on the foreground. You have used that 30D well my friend.

Congrats to you on the 35K marker.

Deze bevalt me helemaal, John.

Hi John,
Unfortunately I haven't been here in the past few months, I simply don't have enough time... But it's difficult to live without You, Friends. I missed so many great images on TL... From so many Friends... Shame on me.
Great postcard view of the real Willemstad. :) Maybe the foreground's a little too much to my taste, although 'pavées' are sharp as razorblade. Servais Knaven would love them. :)
Good luck with the new camera. Tfs and congrats.

Hoi John,
Nou, een vertrek in stijl voor deze camera. Grappig dat men meteen is geinteresseerd in het feit of je al een nieuwe eigenaar weet. :-)
Goede pov in deze foto. Mooie kleuren, met een mooie lucht er boven.
groeten,

Hello John,
I like the composition with inclusion of large area of the town square, as the space leads nicely up to the church as the natural eye-catcher!
Sharp fine details and a well balanced composition...
Greetings,
Pablo -

nice space here john
the empty space in the forground shows the size of the place very well
nice contrast from the sky

koh

I like the geometry of the pavement, John. What is particularly interesting is that there is not a gum wrapper or even a fallen leaf on the ground. Clean sweep! I bet your cars in Holland don't even dare to leak oil!
Cheers
Otto

Hi John,

Please keep this picture for later to be compared with 50D or 60D one day . .
Lovely presentation of super wide lens . .
I should have one and make panoramic view . . There are lots of point in Indonesia that are good if captured in wide . .
Congratulation with the new 40D . .

I am not complaining about my 30 D it's a good camera.
Well done for this nice place.
Good depht by the forground.
I note some little distortions on the tower, that's why I make stitches of several pictures to avoid this problem.
