Treklens, this is my wolf, made by me!!! in
Indiana Wolf Park.

Well, I AM Copyright Holder !

Below the story again
Thanks and best regards

The pack I was with had six wolves called "Main Pack".
Tirstan the Alfa wolf of the pack, Ayla, Kailani, Renki (he loves patting and scratching), Rudie(with blue eyes), Wotan and Wolfgang (both these love taking their pictures).
They all are between the age of 10-15 and 100-120 pounds of weight, so ..real big fellows !

All these wolves are rescued from wild life b/c either their mother died in some encounter or she abondened these pups.
They where rescued by the park people
Again.. being used a little with 'humans' , they are wild, and treated in wild nature park that was specially created for them.

One need to watch very carefully all their moments, expressions, rate of breathing to judge if the wolf is in social mood or is hyper and agitated. Again.. all this we learned in the instructions and demo before the photo shoot.
Also we had park staff with us for safety purpose.

A Wolf invites you for the interaction.. then and only then you can pat him/her, touch them, and again all is upto the wolf how and until what limit. So.. standing next to an 'invited person ' and not wait your turn.. start 'cuddling' out of your own initiative is seen by the wolves as' provocation/attack'
For more details on wolf characteristics and behavior visit WikiPedia.

Now about the camera settings:
We got these instruction from professional wolf photographer who is doing this for 20 years, and also a researcher of woles and park staff.
All technical details, and dos and don't.

Wolves love cloudy and gloomy weather.
They are most active and expressive in such weather !! Snow.. hail stones .. frost.. your wolf is 'active.

Wolves are than constantly moving, so you've hardly 1-2 seconds to take their picture in particular act or pose.
The camera should be on all the time to grab any action.
It is obvious that sometimes you might get it, and sometimes miss it.
Your camera is preset with atleast 800 ISO, and aperture as wide open as possible.
Shutter speed varies between 800-2000.
White Balance on "Cloudy" to get warm colors.
Now few might ask what about noise...it is expected to have little noise,
and that gets compensated with the wonderful action and expressions caught.
Flash can be used with wolves, and they won't mind it.
Now the photo:
This is Kailani (a female wolf, means sea and sky in Hawaiian language) climbing on the broken wood trunk..
Here I caught her, just when she went up to the trucnk.
All the wolves are darn cute, lovable and ofcourse "Darlings" (at least for me) :D
Thanks for popping

You have to leave a little space for them to live."

hello Vandana,

im so jealous, jealous, jealous of you because you got to take shot of this beautiful grey wolf from near (my. no. 1 fav. wild animal in the world - the grey wolf) one of my wish is to see them from near if possible hug them..

do you know why i like the grey wolf so much? among many things they are very loyal and faithful to their family and protect them very much.. and of course they only mate one for life unless the other alpha died.. i have so many books about this animal. even i have some shirts given by my friends because they know i love this animal.. since i watched animal kingdom so much and national geography esp. showing about wolf i will take leave just to watched the documentary which always fall on working day.. hehehehe.. i could talk 9 to the dozen about them but im afraid you will get bored..

im going to put this in my fav. thanks for showing.. well capture with excellent detail and composition. hope to see them one day.. pssttt my other nickname or pen name is shadowfang :D hahahaha..

Thanks for sharing all the camera setting tips. I think many/most digital cameras provide good results at 800 ISO now. That was likely the reason to use that setting.
The rest must be about being ready and getting the action. Excellent FG driftwood with the main focus well posed on top. Good focus and DoF. Obviously you were ready for his smile. TFS. K2

Thanks for the interesting note, Vandana... I guess noise levels should be totally acceptable in daylight at 800 ISO, especially for downsized pictures. Absolutely not visible here. I like the colours, it's almost all in the same tonal range, isn't it? Excellent sharpness, but at that speed I guess that's normal. I like how Kailani's paw is opened up like this, for optimal grip on the tree trunk.
And hey, that's a beautiful name too. Must remember that if ever I get a female shepherd ;o)).

Hello Vandana
I see AGAIN a photo was deleted by admin! I know I commented on this one..... because I asked if you where going to show us Wolfgang? well anyway.. I hope all is settled and TL understand you took the photo!

I again like the look here.. the way the wolf is looking off in the distance like you are of no concern! :)

Hi Vandana,
You know, that "wolf",as you call him,has more inteligence in the eyes then many people do:)
I personally am not a big fan of the animals photos but this one really stands out from the rest.

Vandana, I can't even imagine having wolves and bears around while taking photos - serious stuff. I am happy just contending with the roos and a few galahs! Then to see such wonderful photos of these magnificent creatures well done!!!! Great POV and composition - so clear - wow
