Hi folks,

I lamentated a lot what to send to my Lady friend Vandana2923, when some of her words came into my mind she wrote in a critique: "I especially like your train shots". So, here it is: a train to Vandana! Vanny, I hope You like it.

I've done the photo in February, but haven't published yet. Of course this little steam locomotive works on State Forest Railway Of Lillafüred, a nice 760 millimeter-gauge privatbahn in the Bükk mountains. More info about this cute steam locomotive here, below one of my first photos uploaded to TrekLens.

On this photo she ("Lilla" is a female name in the Hungarian language) is just going on the 64 meters high bridge over Mély-völgy ("Deep Valley"), closed to a small village named Alsóhámor (officially a part of Miskolc), with a special course.

PP: cropping, sharpening, partial desaturation, antic effect (soft sepia), layer duplication, "accented edges" effect; cutting Lilla, the carriages and the smoke off of the mask, framing, signing, re-sizing.

I sent this photo (just today) to a Hungarian Railway Photo Contest, into "Side-lines and Nature" category, so I hope the best... From 11th of December all photos, which were sent to the contest may be seen here, on this website, and the announcement of result will be on 11th of January, 2008. I also contested with THIS photo in "Dying Side-lines" and THIS in "Side-lines And Human" categories. So please cheer me if You like these shots...

Note update 10th of December: for the request of dpbours, k-2 and WMcK some more technical infos. You can see the unmodified version as a workshop. At first I worked in full color - made simple PP like optimal contrast, saturation, exposure correction, brightness etc. Than cropped the guys off of the bottom, and did the other PP You can read above.

Karin (k-2): I didn't use any other special effect except for "antic" and "accented edges".

Ciekawe jak to zdjecie wyglada w kolorach. Czy drzewa maja jeszcze jakis odcien jesienny. Jakby ta bialawa para kontrastowala. Za ujecie tematu daję punkty.
Pozdrawiam Witek

Li Laszlo,

It's not just Vandana liking this one!!

You have to explain to me how you get the panning effect with a train coming your way! Really wondering how you got that one!
Good luck with the contest! Thumbs up!

The sepia makes this a timeless image. How did you get the little stars in the trees -- which effect did you use? TFS. K2

Excellent focus Lazlo. Lovely blurred suroounds and the train itself so clear. Good colour and well composed. TFS,

Many thanks for your comment on ‘More Belated Birthdays’. Vertical is something I rarely think of when it is foggy. The Olympus is quite capable but at times I have to get the right amount of zoom for it to be able to focus in the half light.

Szia Laci !
Egy kis Chicagót varázsoltál ide ! Hangulatos kép lett. Ezt a képet nem is tudnám színnel elképzelni. Időutazás!
Üdv, Zsú

Good angle! The colors are of a tone, the little movement effect around the train please me a lot! It work strongly, just have to imagine the whistle of it :)

Hello László,

Wonderful job with an excellent frame and a very beautiful homage to our TL friend Vandana!

Hello Laszlo,

Oh my god...Do I really have that train?
I feel honored Laszlo. Thank you for this train shot. And yes, I do like your train photos.

Hi Laszlo,
Good shot . It reminds me an old western film . I like the mood made by the 'antic' and the 'accented edges' Nice POV and effects .

Hello Laszlo,
Can't remember last time I saw a working steam engine live!
Wonderful action has been captured and presented to the audience in this fine composition, and the sepia fits the subject!

Hi Laszlo
Great shot my friend.
Good pov, nice light, very well presented, you have done well.

Hi Laszlo,
Nice pirture of this train ,lovely composition and beautiful contrast in Black & White, Excellent POV and details.
Very well done..

I wish I could give this more than two points, Laszlo. This is an outstanding photo! Easily your best! I love the drama of the train approaching, steam and smoke belching from it. Your POV is perfect, and the sense of motion very quite effective.

Your color treatment of the photo is also very well done. You've taken us back in time with this image, and I can practically hear the train approaching!

A most beautiful shot in your Gallery Dear Friend.. So perfect... Well done!!!! Naturally.. MARY CHRISTMAS!!

Hi Laszlo, This was on the features today. It has instant appeal in my opinion. Something from last century. Good angle of perpsective and the black and white makes it like an historical photograph. TFS. Murray.

hello Laszlo,
I am a real train fan and it is great to see this train steaming across the tracks.
Good POV with interesting effect from the special effects.
Very nice b/ W with a good compo.
Have a good weekend, Joni
