A slight bit of frost today, -3 °C in Lint, a bit foggy but no ice on the ground... To my surprise, in Antwerp it had snowed.

I think I had subconsciously anticipated that, for I took the 350D to work. Needless to say that I took it out as soon as I stepped out of the train ;o).

It was only a small amount of snow, so as you can see the pavement got all ugly real soon. I decided to leave it as it was, to balance for the slightly darker part in the upper left corner.

Tech talk

Croppity-crop, chose for a near-square format.

Downsized for TL as per usual: 72 dpi » 1200 dpi, 2755 pixels width » 800 pixels *, 1200 dpi » 96 dpi.

* Applied USM 18, 40, 0; USM 150%, 0.3, 0 after downsizing.

I re-wrote my intro late in December. Feel free to read it if you have some time. One thing I'd like to repeat here is my opinion about the point system; please leave me a critique if you want, but there's no need to add points. As far as I'm concerned, spend your daily amount of rated critiques on newbies or on members that really care for points. I don't... I care about useful critiques ;o).

Anyway, thanks for stopping by !

------

I've awfully little time to browse your pictures, I'm afraid... I hope the week-end will bring more time ;o).

Hi Frank
Great photo, I liked the absence of colours gave by the snow on the bikes, just the suficient to show that the picture is not in B&W !
Very good composition and motive to the shot, I think you got exactly what you want.
Good DOF, POV and sharpness.
well done,
Taba

Hi Frank

Very fine shot. I like the "snow camouflage" on these bicycles. Nice job.

Très belle prise Frank.
On sent bien le froid.

Hello Frank, I loved this image as it reminds me of being a child not able to go out in the sunshine and ride your bike. Very nostalgic! I did a workshop just to see how it would look in black and white. Excellent and cold job! B

really cool camouflage pic...well done!

this almost look b/w Frank :)
i always like how the snow covers parts of the object and creates a shadow or 3D effect :)
well seen and captured

Amazing to see all of these pictures from all over Europe with snow, Frank, when don't have any in Toronto which is very unusual for us. Very nicely composed with the diagonal created by the fence & the bicycle (maybe a bit tight on the left). Good decision to leave the bit of pavement where the snow had started to melt or turn to slush. Well done!

It is always nice to see snow in photos. We don't have it this year in Washington. :( I like the composition and colors are very real. The only thing that bothers me a little is the wheel of the first bycicle. I wish it were also in focus.

Katya

Good composition, and a very nice DOF. For some reasons, it looks more like volcanic ash to me than snow or frost. There is a sense of time suspended here that I like a lot. Great shot!

Nice presentation! Cold can do so unbelievable things with so less! You show us a good exemple of that! Cool!

Groet,
Paul

Hi Frank... this is a pleasing photo, to cool me off down here in the humidity... temps high in the late 20's even up to 30 deg C the other day...nicely composed and good DOF...

One would get a cold wet bottom sitting on that seat though..LOL..

Thanks for sharing...
Sending some of our heat to warm you up...
Cheers
Dawn.

deze foto is 'cool' Frank

Hi Franc,
very nice photo, I like it!
cherubin

MAGIC, INDIGO AWARD, thanx, M, (*_*)

Nice composition. The slight colors peaking through on the bikes really adds alot to this photo. I think if it had been all B&W it wouldn't have worked as well.
Very nice job!
Paul

Funny you should say touch of winter when everything seems almost covered with snow. Nearly B/w as otehrs have said with just a few traces of colour. Good angle too and nice graphic composition.

Oh, really great winter shot Frank. Love the diagonal composition. Snow covered bikes always appeal to me. Love the splash of colour from the green bike. Very well done.

Hi Frank,
it's wonderful - I don't want to go with the bike in these snowy days - brrrr.
Very nice motive, thanks
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Hey Frank, your wish is happened: snow! I love this one with those bikes standing on the fence, with snow on it. A lovely one!
Best regards
Guy

Those hints of colour in a mostly BW surrounding make this picture really special to me.
IMHO, one of your best Frank !
Sincere congratulations !

Excellent winter shot, a simple subject but so well composed and captured, that it is special!
Well done!
Vassilis

Hi Frank,
Now this looks like a really cold photo! Initially, I thought that the photo was B&W until I saw some colour in the bikes. Nice POV & tight crop. Good winter composition, well seen and captured.
Well done :)

SSSSSSSSSSNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
And bicicle (veliki)
Bravo!

This looks so much like a black and white photo Frank, that it is a surprise to discover the colour elements. And there are a few. But I like it that way.I ride my bike to work and I know what it's like to come out and find it covered like this. I long for spring.

Hi Frank,

Great shot here! I love the way it looks so cold and yet there are still some colours in the reflectors on the bikes. Great detail and excellent composition

John

Hallo Frank

Very nice - so very winter, it is :) Reminds me...where has the snow gone? We need more! I like the title - it's a touch of winter, be it a slight, but it's enough to make us hope for more :)
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Frank,
Very nice winter photo with these bikes and trees covered with snow. And during this time here it's raining. Excellent composition.
Luc

Marleen

Hi Frank,

Well done on this capture and composition. Your details are just right in this scene. I'm having a good chuckle, those bikes are retro looking. :) :)

This is FREEZING! No way could I live over there in these conditions. Very good show Frank of life in the cold lane...
It's just about B&W, but I do like seeing the odd colour here and there. Well shown especially seeing the snow as it is. TFS
Janice

Hi Frank,

How nice winter shot, the mild winking colours from the tender blanket of snow.
The perspective is also well designed.

I just recognised you wrote a complete codex on your intro side, now I will start reading now - instead of drawing today's task (a half-naked - upper side - model with bones in him :-O), hehe, it was so good to trek again.
We started the computer graphic subject, so I do not have to spend all time in my massy painting room, so I will come back now regularly. At least this is The Plan.

Have a nice weekend!

Cheers,
Marcie

Hi Dingo

There is a green halo around the front wheel, & contrast could be a little higher. Otherwise, a very good shot. Tfs!

Belle trouveille...

Hi Frank! wow how I love this one, all is SO white! congratulations! great POV!

Mooi hoor.

Groet, Pedro

It was one of this frosty, winter day, when everything there is beautified with brightly white, crystal diamods of ice. The world looks like the Kingdom of Snow Queen from Andersen's tale. The air is cold and fresh. The things around you give you a hint: Do you see how do we look now? Nobody can stay oblivious for such landscape. And if you have a camera with you...You're one lucky fellow.
You had the camera, Frank. And I can only imagine how great those bikes looked like on the Olde Antwerpen' scene.
Imagine I say...Because your picture is boringly gray, a standard shot with standard POV, with dirty ash instead of white crystals. No concept, no designing, and on the top of it - poorly executed PP process. Such common thing like sharpness - where is it?
Pitty. The nature did its homework. Did you do yours, Frank?
Only excuse...You were on your way to work. Time was pushing you strongly. It happens sometimes even for the best. As for me - very, very frequently.
Good luck the next time.

Warmest regards...George

I've read your introduction. I share your opinion and your point of view.

It was a winter storm. It hit sooo fast... People left their bikes and run away... After only 30 seconds, the bikes were covered in snow. Another 30 seconds, and it would have been impossible to take this photo...

Great angle... Perfect...

Hello Frank

Ours!!! I am amazed with the one that I see!
for this composition to be like this, only even in -3ºc.
It was wonderful the look.
Love the splash of colour from the green bike
Congratulations, worthy of all of the credits.

Hoi Frank,
Misschien...
TFS & groeten,
Erik
