For a well educated sloth there is nothing like a life up in the trees. They only come to the ground to put their excrements at the foot of the tree they live in at that moment. The pole in the water must have looked like a young tree. Note the claw of the baby sloth in the boat. Yes, I should have fotographed more of that little creature ...
