The last photo I posted from the Galapagos was from my Canon digital A95 through underwater housing. This shot was taken with my Minolta Film Camera with a Sigma lens. I scanned, converted to jpeg, cropped, tried to add a bit of saturation and here is the end result. Hope you like it. Look forward to hearing your comments. Will help me decide if I should stick to the digital or pick out some of my best film shots. Here is a mother Blue Footed Booby and newly hatched chick with another egg below her. The Galapagos Islands truly are the most amazing islands on earth!
From Wikipedia:
The Blue-footed Booby is on average 81 centimetres (32 in) long and weighs 1.5 kilograms (3.3 lb), with the females slightly larger than the males. It has long pointed wings and a wedge shaped tail. They have strong, thick necks. The booby's eyes are placed on either side of their bill and oriented towards the front. They have excellent binocular vision. The Blue-footed Booby's eyes are yellow. The male has more yellow on its iris than the female. The Blue-footed Booby has permanently closed nostrils made for diving. They breathe through the corners of their mouths. Their feet range from a pale turquoise to a deep aquamarine. Males and younger birds have lighter feet than females do.
The female Blue-footed Booby lays two or three eggs. Both male and female take turns incubating the eggs, while the non-sitting bird keeps watch. Since the Blue-footed Booby does not have a brooding patch (a patch of bare skin on the underbelly), it uses its feet to keep the eggs warm. The chicks cannot control their body temperature up until about one month old. Eggs are laid about five days apart. Blue-foots are one of only two species of booby that raise more than one chick. This may be because of the males specialized diving in shallow waters. They must be fed frequently, so the adults constantly hunt for fish. The chicks feed off the regurgitated fish in the adult's mouth. If the parent Blue-footed Booby does not have enough food for all of the chicks, it will only feed the biggest chick, ensuring that at least one will survive. Boobies may use and defend two or three nesting sites until they develop a preference a few weeks before the eggs are laid. Usually two to three eggs are laid, and one to two chicks are hatched. The incubation period is 41–45 days.
Have a great week!

You scan of this film image turned out nicely.

A wonderful moment you have captured here.

I have found with my own library of film images, that if I had a chance to re-shoot them with my digital camera I would. I have a mixed success with scanning my film images, especially slides.

Nice Composition.

Very moving moment you've captured. Nature is amazing. And you did a wonderful job in converting from film to jpeg without losing much details and colors. That must have been a very informative and awesome trip you took. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lori,
You managed to produce a wonderful composition with the portrait of this interesting bird watching over her chicks!
A nice bent of her head with its conisderable long beak leadng us to admire her young ones.
A perfect crop! IMHO it lacks contrast and contains some OE!
A good Nature candid shot and I give credit for this!
My best regards,

Francis Xavier

Very cute and well captured

Hello Lori,
The design is excellent here with good observation and imagination. Nature is amazing, gread moment.
Best wishes.

Hi Lori,

This is a great shot and I think has come out well for a film image scanned in and converted. There is some OE but the detail is fairly good and the composition of mother and baby well worth doing the PP work on. I think it is worth posting film shots as well as digital as they give us the chance to practice PP techniques in a different way.

Hello Lori,
Indeed, this was an experiment of nature as are many of Galapagos' wildlife. One of my dreams to visit there, wish i would have been with Darwin in the day!
Excellent capture of these Blue Footed Boobys...
