I'm not an expert photographer, especially portrait photography. But I'll give my thoughts for what they are worth and you can ignore as you see fit.

Firstly, I think you could have taken the photo from a lower point of view, so you were level with her. I also think some fill flash or reflector could have been used to lighten her face a little. The background is distracting, so a wider aperture, giving a narrow depth of field could have been used. But you have captured a lovely expression, and I'm sure she was pleased with the result.
