This is a morpho butterfly (Morpho menelaus??)whose wingspan is about 10 cm. There are about 80 species of morpho, so I'm not about to bet my life on the name I've ascribed to this one. I'll let that up to a lepidopterist.
Morphos don't seem to land very often, and when they do it's usually when they're too far away to get photographed. But this guy was cooperative. |
