Another Warbird from Warbirds over Wanaka, this time a static shot of the Spitfire owned by the Deere family. I wonder about posting static shots as against shot of the plane flying but these are rare things of beauty and I know there are some on TL who love seeing them. It wasn't possible to get front on shot at Wanaka and this was taken leaning over a fence.

Supermarine PV270 Spitfire

New Zealandís only airworthy Spitfire fighter aircraft took to the skies at the Warbirds over Wanaka airshow. It is one of only about 45 airworthy examples worldwide. This Spitfire is the first to be fully restored in New Zealand and is owned by the family of renowned Kiwi fighter pilot Alan Deere. Air Commodore Deere, who was a highly distinguished pilot, served with the RAF for forty years.

The Mark IX Spitfire was built in 1944 and served with the Royal Air Force in Italy. The ĎALí on the fuselage has been added to represent the Spitfires flown by Air Commodore Deere in wartime. Spitfires flown by the Royal Air Force gained legendary status during WWII for their success as fast and formidable front-line fighters, particularly during the Battle of Britain.

Lovely rear quarter view of the Spitfire Ralph, the soft lighting avoids those harsh shadows we normally have.
Pity you couldn't have got a little lower, the wings would have hidden the row of cars, and that Harvard cowling.
I hope it wasn't your hip playing up.

Thanks for that info on the Miles, well done.

PS, Duh! I just read your note....

Hi Ralph, The DOF & POV looks good.

Hi Ralph,
A well chosen POV for a static impression of this Spit. Perfect composed, great clear colours of the camouflage. Sharpness is spot on! Your series of Warbirds over Wanaka is gea I enjoy all of them.
