Gannet on High

This is for the Friday Bokeh Theme - thanks Linda - good idea.

I have been going back over my photos looking for a BOKEH image to post. I seem to have taken quite a few and it's been a hard decision on what one to post.

I finally ended up with this one - I have many floral Bokeh images taken in gardens, but ended up choosing this one because it was 100% different from a garden scene...

Enjoy!!

Hello Janice,

I know just what you mean about finding the choice difficult. I scoured my archives for a shot where the bokeh was important but ... it hasn't to remove attention from the main image!
This is an incredible, sharp capture of the gannet, revealing the sleekness of its outline, important when diving into the sea. The bokeh helps set the scene nicely without detracting from the focal bird.

Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Bom dia Janice,
A wise decision because not only the bokeh is incredible, but also the extraordinary catch you've made of this beautiful Gannet.
Good WE

Kia ora Janice,
A superb example of the bokeh effect! Great sharpness of the gannet, these birds are meanwhile my favorites ;-) Superb colours particular the eye, the contrast shows teh sharp lines around the beak. Job well done my dear! Thanks for your contribution to the theme!
Hans

Hello Janice,

This one and of course the previous Gannet images are just stunning. The sharpness of both birds is outstanding. It's curious they let you come this close.

The tricolour bokeh is a wonderfull contrast to the animal's head.

Damn nice shot.

Patrick

Wow! Nice one Jannie!! The BG seems to be shimmering around this beautiful bird! Excellent posting for the theme!

Good choice Janice, the soft background works well in highlighting your main subject without distracting from it.
I may have chose to have cropped this image to about an inch from the top of the birds head to give even more impact to the image.

Hi Janice,

A wonderful portrait of the Gannet, with excellent background bokeh. A great addition to the theme.

These birds are very unusual for me, I don't think they're found around these parts. The Gannet is super sharp and your camera settings are perfect for bird photography. You never know when you'll see them in action.

Sorry that you're now headed into the colder months, but I imagine New Zealand is beautiful during any season.

Warm regards,
Werner

The bokeh is nice - the sharpness and detail and clarity on the gannet itself is even better. Terrific shot, great light, colours and details. Possibly could've cropped a little from the top, but that's just a personal thing.

Rob

Great sharp subject and very well placed on frame. It is great.
The bokeh is not as interesting as the gannet though ;)

Hi Janice,

Your Gannet is fabulous! The colouring of the bird is exquisite and the details are superb. The bokeh BG makes the Gannet pop out of the frame. Nice mix of colours in the BG. Wonderful posting for this week's theme! TFS.

John

HI Janice..nice shot...sharp details with nice tones and light.

Hi Janice

Fine portrait of this gannet, the details are superb.
This one must have been very close to you compared to the others in background.

Hi Janice, what a photo showing beak, eye and even plumage in such clear detail! And yes, the 'bukeh' quality is definitely there. Thank you for sharing! Cheers, Cordelia

Hi Janice,
beautiful portrait.Like a painting.Perfect sharpness.TFS.Necla.

Wow .. fantastic! First of all, these are such striking birds ... the coloration on their heads, the blue-rimmed eyes, and that black outlining on their beaks. You've captured all of those amazing details with perfect sharpness here. Great job. I might have cropped down a little lower from the top .. just my opinion though.
I hope you've had a nice summer, as we prepare to go into spring and summer here!
Cheers
Trudy

Hello Janice,
