See, I'm NOT Cross-eyed

A close-up of one of the GANNETS at the Muriwai Gannet Colony.

Sorry his / her beak is OOF but I was quite happy with the look this darling fellow was giving me...

These gannets live very precariously on the cliffs at Muriwai, on Auckland’s west coast.

They arrive in New Zealand from Australia around September / October each year to nest. Eggs are laid in October to November, with chicks hatching after about 44 days.

The young leave the nest after 100 days, but do not reach breeding maturity until about six or seven years old.

Muy buena la definicion de la imagen, el foco del lente. Felicidades :)

hi janice
great capture,it seems a bit perplexed?,excellent detail lovely colours and close up markings.

Now THAT is a close-up. Even with the zoom, you must've been close to get it like this! Nice job - very clear.

The orientation of those eyes shows that these birds must have evolved for hunting, using those sharp eyes to spot prey.

Really nice work!

Hello Janice :)

Bird's very curious " portrait" about splendid eyes :)
Perfect, colours, light and sharpness.
Pretty, showy realization.
It pleases me very.
I wish You splendid weekend

Best wishes.

I love it, Janice. What an expression you captured. He looks SO indignant. Great lighting, wonderful color and remarkable detail. The OOF bill doesn't hurt this shot, as far as I'm concerned. It gave me a chuckle when I opened it. Many thanks and Happy Holidays!

Kia ora Janice,
Perfect POV and DOF! Great how the slight blur of the beak ends up in the perfect sharpness of these clear blue eyes! Great gannet picture, add this image to my favorites.

What a stunner Janice, I don't have a problem with the beak, this is all about those incredible eyes.
What an experence for you, quite a buzz I reckon.

Thanks for sending the 'links' recipe. I'll pluck up courage {Dutch maybe} and have a go later tonight.

Wow Janice, what a portrait. Splendid sharpness and excellent light in the gannet's eyes, showing lots of details in the irises. DOF is outstanding, the position of his head in the shot is great, and best thing is that the background is very neutral, making it a very tranquil shot.

Hi Janice

He is giving you a look!! The kind that says 'don't get any closer!!!!'
Great image over all..and the beak being OOF does not detracked from the superb sharpness of the eyes.

Regards Tracey

What a face As human beings we tend to imagine feelings behind an expression like this one He looks quite indignant I wouldnt like to get too close Excellent pov dof colours and details very fine work
warm regards

Hi Janice...great close up shot...wonderful details..excellent work.

Hello Janice !

I have to adjust my glasses (^_^), It is soooo close ! Lovely narrow DOF with the focus at the right place i.e. on the eyes. The tilted head , makes the shot even funnier.
Lovely catch.
